Live Poll: Rest in Peace, Klaus Doldinger

Intro: We honour the life of Klaus Doldinger, whose mastery on saxophone, piano and clarinet carried him from jazz clubs to global acclaim. Sadly he passed on October 16, 2025. As leader of Passport he fused jazz, rock and soul into a living sound-scape, and as film composer he gave voice to Das Boot (1981), The NeverEnding Story (1984) and the long-running German crime series Tatort (1970). Through his scores and improvisations he touched generations and expanded what jazz and film music could be. May his work continue to resonate and spark joy in listeners around the world. His film music mostly centered on German productions. Which of his most significant scores, known to a wider audience, did you like the most? Please discuss it here. Suggestions: ? There is an error on the page of Klaus Doldinger. It says he has had composed the music for "Tatort", but only 34 episodes. That's wrong Doldinger's melody of "Tatort" is in all 1300+ episodes. There were just minor changes in orchestration, pitching, things like that. But the theme was all the same over the entire series.

"Documentation" should be "documentary".

Sure! I've changed it. I don't get rid of it. When it comes to documentaries, I always do the same fail. ;) Doesn't get into my head. ;)

Breu, it wasn't changed in the list.

That's weird! When I go to edit, it's changed. Then I go back and it says documentation, again. Then I click edit and all is saying documentary. I guess that's from the glitch that happened today. If not in edit mode, it says the old.

Now it kept it. It says documentary now in all three options when I'm locked out.

Hi Breu, this is such a well done poll and the intro is absolutely beautiful. Altogether, it's very poignant. I suggest just adding a couple of commas: As leader of Passport, he fused jazz, rock and soul... (comma after Passport) Through his scores and improvisations, he touched generations and expanded what jazz and film music could be. (comma after improvisations) Bravo. This poll really is quite touching.

There are just a few things which are so German-like, like "Tatort". Since 1970 it is on TV each Sunday. That's 55 years! Klaus Doldinger often was considered "the German Henry Mancini".
