The obvious film to include here would have been 2019's "Tolkein."  The whole movie seems to explain where he came up with different scenes or different characters.  Maybe it is a little too much.

I don't remember if you have it on your list, but in the 1996 film, the title character "Matilda" is reading The Hobbit.

Well, obviously the films and shows shouldn't be related to Tolkien or The Lord of the Rings.

Regarding Matilda, I don't think we actually see her reading it, the book cover is just shown very briefly, and it's really hard to spot (I wouldn't have known it if you hadn't told me). Plus it's The Hobbit, not The Lord of the Rings.

Nice idea! I'd vote for the second option (The Big Bang Theory episode).

@Jessica,

For your consideration:
In Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, Spoiler: Bert Is Magic

  • Fantasy World Tropes: In this fantasy-themed episode, the show parodies traditional high-fantasy tropes—including wizards, ancient spells, and epic quests—that trace back to Middle-earth lore.

  • Quests & Artifacts: The plot of Stuart retrieving specific items (like red quartz) to repair the universe-hopping device mirrors the classic "quest for a powerful artifact" archetype iconic to The Lord of the Rings.

  • General Pop-Culture References: As a spinoff of The Big Bang Theory, Stuart and the group frequently throw out casual pop-culture namedrops and banter referencing Frodo, Sauron, and Middle-earth alongside comic book lore.

Thanks. I haven't seen it, but based on your description it doesn't seem like there is a clear or specific reference. For example, I think the "quest for a powerful artifact" is not just iconic to The Lord of the Rings but other films as well.

Besides, I already have The Big Bang Theory.
