Live Poll: The Posters of Renato Casaro

Italian poster designer Renato Casaro died on September 30, 2025, he was 89 years old. Born in Treviso, he painted over 2,000 movie posters and is considered one of the most influential and innovative poster artists. When speaking about his art he said in an interview for the NY Times “The important thing was to capture the essential: that moment, that glance, that attitude, that movement that says everything and condenses the entire story. That’s the hard part, You can’t cheat. You can’t promise something that isn’t there.” He stopped making posters around 1998, when digital photoshop replaced hand drawn images, about this new style he said, "It's very easy to generate a spectacular image, but with no soul." He came out of retirement to design some vintage posters for fictional films that appeared in Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood. A documentary about his career, The Last Movie Painter, was released in 2020. Which of these posters painted by Casaro is your favorite? https://www.imdb.com/list/ls4150621562/

From those I like Nikita, Misery or Solaris. He seems to have had a wide range of styles.

rubyfruit would probably suggest an edit to the opening: Italian poster designer Renato Casaro died on September 30, 2025. He was 89 years old. And maybe a comma before the quote here: When speaking about his art he said in an interview for the NY Times, “The important thing And in the next paragraph: He stopped making posters around 1998, when digital photoshop replaced handdrawn images. About this new style he said, "It's very easy to generate a spectacular image, but with no soul."

Peter, you know me well. ; ) Pencho, the only thing that I might add to what Peter included is a comma after "art" in the following sentence: When speaking about his art, he said in an interview for the NY Times, “The important...

If I didn't mention it in Google Groups, I really like this poll so much and this artist seems great. I like his work and also what he said in the quotes you chose. I'm sorry to hear of his passing but he certainly seems to have left a great legacy. I'll probably vote for The Last Emperor, although Solaris is a close second.

"died" is a little hard. I think "passed" sounds softer. It's not so harsh.
