Live Poll: Villeneuve's James Bond Candidates

A new report indicates that Denis Villeneuve will begin his search for the next James Bond after he completes production on Dune: Part Three (2026). The director and his collaborators are reportedly seeking a "fresh face," a male British actor in his late 20s to early 30s. This approach would rule out many of the most popular fan favorites. With that in mind, who do you think is the best choice to take on the 007 mantle? List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls4108283155/ List Copy: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls4108283155/copy/ Poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/_UzN8lxELCso-mjHCaieoQ/ Poll Results: https://www.imdb.com/poll/_UzN8lxELCso-mjHCaieoQ/?view=results See also: Who Should Be the Next 007? https://www.imdb.com/poll/ZIVV7VpiGLA/ Note: The "Who Should Be the Next 007?" is my poll with the most votes; it went live June 7, 2016. https://imdbstats.com/user/ur0127678/?sort=votes,desc

Several of those are hardly fresh faces. The original report is https://www.imdb.com/news/ni65489993/

@Peter_pbn, Yes, that is the article upon which I based this poll: https://www.imdb.com/news/ni65489993/ I missed that I included Tom Holland; he's been removed. This is an initial cut at the list. Suggestions are welcome. I'm trying to balance between truly "fresh faces" that people are unlikely to know and over exposed actors that would not be considered "fresh faces".

FYC, 25-35 y.o.a. Scotland born 1990-2000 (sorted by popularity) https://www.imdb.com/search/name/?birth_date=1990-01-01,2000-12-31&birth_place=Scotland&gender=male I will be surprised if anyone 25-30 years of age is cast in the role, other than for reasons of finding a "fresh face" and being able to stay in the role longer. It is more about finding a fit, than age, still 28-38 seems a more realistic age to me. The literary James Bond is 32-33, when 'Casino Royal' debuted the character in 1953. Plus, its seems illogical that anyone could elevate themselves to "00" status without at least 10-15 years of combined military experience and as a junior operative.

James Bond (debut 1953, d.o.b. 1920/21) = 32-33 y.o.a., Scottish/Swiss) Sean Connery (debut 1962, d.o.b. 1930) = 32 y.o.a., Scottish) David Niven (debut 1967, d.o.b. 1910) = 57 y.o.a., English) George Lazenby (debut 1967, d.o.b. 1939) = 28 y.o.a., Australian) Roger Moore (debut 1973, d.o.b. 1927) = 46 y.o.a., English) Timothy Dalton (debut 1987, d.o.b. 1946) = 41 y.o.a., English) Pierce Brosnon (debut 1995, d.o.b. 1953) = 42 y.o.a., Irish) Daniel Craig (debut 2006, d.o.b. 1968) = 38 y.o.a., English)

@urbanemovies Looked at the listed properly. Not sure what Villeneuve's vision is, but I agree than the majority of actors in the age range look/are way too young. I think Kit Harrington would work best among the options presented. He also has a large fan base as a GoT alumnus.

Reading between the lines, this would make sense (from Hugh Scott 03 Oct. 2025 @ www.cinemablend.com/movies/james-bond-26-news-convinced-gonna-get-one-story-i-dont-want) "It Sounds Like This May Be A James Bond Origin Story According to the news first reported by Deadline last week, scriptwriter Steven Knight (creator of Peaky Blinders and House of Guinness, which you can watch with a Netflix subscription), is “going back to Bond’s beginnings,” including his time in the Navy before he was recruited by MI6 and before he attained “Double 0” status. This is hardly music to my ears. Adding to that is the reporting that Villeneuve is looking for an unknown actor in his late 20s or early 30s to replace Daniel Craig as the legendary character. A younger actor would presumably be there to play a younger Bond. All of this adds up to something I don’t want: a James Bond origin story."

this is making sense now. the only actors there that i have significant exposure to are johnson and harrington , who are 35 and 38 respectively. and they are both leading the poll (behind the jenna ortega option)

Looking back in the archives, this was Dan's response to a request from IMDb staff for a poll with female and "unlikely" candidates. Some of the less serious names came from a message board, others had been mentioned in the media. Chopra and Jolie were both quoted as saying they would rather play Bond than a Bond girl.

Yes, but Danny DeVito? Really? Imagine that. Moore was at least to old for that. I've said no, except it is clearly a fun poll.

@Breumaster wrote: Yes, but Danny DeVito? Really? Woody Allen played Jimmy Bond in Casino Royale (1967) [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061452/], which is a James Bond parody film. Danny DeVito could play James Bond in a future James Bond parody.

We should do a poll on another thread for something like "most amusing actor/actress" to parody James Bond. We already have some very amusing suggestions here.

@NYVKE, If you would like to do a humorous part 2, please do so; something along the lines of "Who would like most like to see star in a James Bond (007) parody film?".

Well, my comment was because Dan's list only includes British actors: "a male British actor in his late 20s to early 30s." Luckily, Plemons still has zero votes and can be replaced.

@Jessica, I just made this re-push request. Title: Villeneuve's James Bond Candidates List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls4108283155/ Poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/_UzN8lxELCso-mjHCaieoQ/ Thread: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdb-poll/live-poll-villeneuves-james-bond-candidates/68d4b03af38d6a1be8211e26 Reason: For choice 34. Replaced Jesse Plemons with Aneurin Barnard. Jess pointed out that Jesse Plemons is American; he currently has zero vote. Aneurin Barnard was born in Ogwr, Mid Glamorgan, Wales, UK and qualifies for the poll. Ironically, I replaced Aneurin Barnard with Jesse Plemons at the suggestion of Tsar.

@Jessica, Thank you for pointing out that Jesse Plemons is American, and thank you for re-pushing this poll so quickly. I seriously doubt that Aneurin Barnard will get any votes, but there are a limited number of viable British actors between 25 and 35.

Thanks, @Pencho15. There is a strong preference (33%) for Jenna Ortega (Some other actor or actress not mentioned), the Betty White option. I wonder whether people are voting for Jenna Ortega or some other actor or actress not mentioned.

Bit of both. Ortega is probably too popular to have been used as the "other" option. But like I said to urbane, a number of those actors are really young and don't seem to fit the classic Bond aesthetic.

@Breumaster and @NYVKE, Anne Ramsey would have been an interesting choice for the "other" option. Sadly, she is deceased. I intentionally chose Jenna Ortega because she is young, popular, and alive. There is a good chance that Denis Villeneuve will choose a complete unknown and none of the actors in this poll.

Dan, if you use a young, popular actress, it's no wonder you may get at least a slightly distorted result. In that case of a Betty white option, it might be better to take an old woman, not necessarily a deceased, but Anne Ramsey is sooo clearly not Bond. Maybe a clearly male character, but also clearly no Bond would also have done: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2535973/ That would be a funny no Bond. ;) But had a gread song at ESC! ;D
