Live Poll: Worst Movie That Earns an "F" From Audiences?

A word of mouth recommendation for a film is worth ten critic reviews to most moviegoers. Based on that principle, Cinemascore was born and Hollywood has listened closely ever since. The entertainment market research company surveys moviegoers at major movie releases every opening night. Their polls condense movie related ratings and demographic information into a single distinctive CinemaScore grade measuring a movies' appeal among theater audiences. A "F" from Cinemascore movie audiences is a rare occurrence and indicates a movie strongly disappointed its core audience. A "F" score is a literal "kiss of death" for a movie, virtually guaranteeing a short theatrical run and limited box office, by scaring off potential patrons once word leaks about the movie. Since 1999, only about twenty films have received the bottom mark which averages out to just over one movies per year. I wonder hum much peolple's expectations factor into their score? An all-star cast and Robert Altman directing. A "F" score seems a bit harsh, granted it wasn't anything special either. Richard Gere ... Dr. T Helen Hunt ... Bree Farrah Fawcett ... Kate Laura Dern ... Peggy Shelley Long ... Carolyn Tara Reid ... Connie Kate Hudson ... Dee Dee

A film may have excellent actors and still disappoint. Because of a poor script, unfortunate implications of its storyline, or underdeveloped characters.

No 2018 movie earned a rare "F" Cinemascore, hopefully 2019 will be a repeat.

The first three may change position in the final vote. I have a personal disdain for the Ashley Judd sewerage churned out by the overrated director, William Friedkin. This one was as unintentionally funny as The Wicker Man. The Uwe Boll one was probably the worst in terms of technical filmmaking. All 5 films are crimes against cinemanity (a term I could have sworn have already created an entry in the Urban Dictionary but maybe failed to do so in reality. That will be fixed soon enough).1. Bug (2006) 1/10;2. Alone in the Dark (2005) 1/10;3. I Know Who Killed Me (2007) 1/10;4. The Wicker Man (2006) 1/10;5. Mother! (2017) 4/10.

William Friedkin, the director of "Cruising"? He has been nominated for two Golden Raspberry Awards, and has been repeatedly accused of homophobia (for his unflattering depictions of homosexuals).

Dimos Dicoudis, while Cruising is controversial I believe that since the initial controversy people (including those who were in depicted subcultures at the time) changed their opinion and many people say that it is a more or less accurate depiction of the gay club scene at the time. That said I should finally see this movie. It's been on my "to watch" list for nearly ten years.

Ardan Tüzünsoy I can totally imagine that: Post-Soviet countries and Ukraine in particular still have rather strict cases of censorship from time to time, but when they had mismatched cases they were even more glaring. I've seen a Harry Potter movie with an equivalent of R classification on TV and I've also seen quite a few horror movies with a near-PG ratings. :)

I like the new word, "cinemanity" has a nice ring to it.

Shouldn't it say an "F"? Also capitalize "From" in the title.

Haven't seen any of these, but the one that sounds the worst is The Devil Inside. You should out the plot summaries in the options so people who haven't seen them can make up their mind, and change the description to say, "If you haven't seen them, which one would you least like to see?"

Stephen Atwood, I probably risk to seem unhip or even uneducated... But I've never heard of CinemaScore before, so thanks for the info. On one hand that seems like a major omission, since it's a very legit firm monitoring box office since 1979, but on the other I can't help but think that it should not be that important to choose the film, so it goes to my "not especially consider" list. Metacritic, Rotten Tomatoes and, to a degree, even IMDb scores are already there. I discover so much great movies that were either bombed, were forgotten or critically panned that it's frankly amazing. Some of them are lucky enough to gain the cult following over the years, but some just slip through the cracks of history, to be discovered either randomly or by film fans like me. It makes me sad, but also hopeful that my efforts in digging might eventually rescue some great movies from such an oblivion...

I suspect that Cinemascore is a firm that the studios and theaters use to predict possible word of mouth successful films rather than the general public (and thusly they don't get as much public attention as Metacritic or Rotten Tomatoes). They're a firm that poll viewers of a given movie after first Friday (?) screenings. I was polled after seeing an opening Thursday (or was it Friday) screening of Uncut Gems.

FYI, I Just Saw Uncut Gems' CinemaScore And Now I'm So MadThe service seem to carter to Hollywood executives and seem to be a good indicator of how much legs a film potentially could have. Likely, a decision making tool to decide whether a film is a good candidate for further expansion, as well as, a bigger marketing push. It seems for most part get it right, but its methodology and small sample size tends to be skewed by the type of audience that turns out for opening night. The service's kryptonite seems to be films that tend to focus on more polarizing topics or films that turn out a heavily biased audience on the opening night. These types of films seem to produce a fair amount A+ scores that the general public would disagree with.
