  • MacGyver uses nitrate from fertilizer, cellulose from plant bark, and a drip or two of acid to make nitromannite (it is a little more sensitive than nitroglycerin) in order to make a bomb to blow up a dam.

FYI, I ran across an article for the Women's History Day and its 2023 female technology & education theme, "DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality" that I can't find now. It discussed using MacGyver to inspire the female scientists of tomorrow with a real-life collegiate female MacGyver competition.

If they didn't just reboot the series in 2021, I could see them gender flipping this role for a new generation with a female MacGyver, maybe his daughter.

@mariojacobs  First, NEVER is a strong word, I recommend always hedging a bit (cough, Starbuck). But, I agree they have had a lot of failures doing that, but there is a reason they keeping on doing them, is that sometimes they actually do work. Personally, I thinking pulling it off has more to do with the person acting or the writers being creative in where they take the character than the concept itself.

Obviously, I wasn't there when they were rebooting MacGyver in 2021, but I bet it was at least discussed briefly. I can think of at least one show where the daughter followed in her father's footsteps and I think surpassed him. As well as, the show became a big hit on its network. The idea in itself isn't bad, but the execution is critical to it working, IMHO.
