I am very sad to hear that DDL is retiring from his acting career. He was one of my favorite actors. I hope this poll goes live soon.

I, too, am deeply saddened to hear that D.D.L. is calling it quits from the 'acting industry'.  Not to embarrass him or anything like, but I always saw of him as a real giant in this business, and I personally didn't think that he was the kind of person that would just decide to hang it all up like he's doing right now.

But, I guess that, even in the filming business, we all reach a point in our lives where we've accomplished everything that we've set out to do, and it's time to move on to other things, and that's probably what Daniel is doing by retiring.  But, at least we know that he's going out in style, with three Academy Awards and at least a few other accolades under his belt.

Speaking of which, I was looking over the list of his five nominated roles, and after careful consideration and serious thought, here's how I would have rated each movie title and movie role in what order:

1. "Gangs Of New York(2002)"- Bill "The Butcher" Cutting:
2. "Lincoln(2012)"- Abraham Lincoln;
3. "In The Name Of The Father(1993)"- Gerry Conlon;
4. "My Left Foot:The Story Of Christy Brown(1989)"- Christy Brown;&
5. "There Will Be Blood(2007)"- Daniel Plainview

I hope that this rating is acceptable to everyone.  If anyone who sees this agrees with it, please let me know right away, and please also, be honest with me, okeydokey?

Hi Dibby! It's so good to see you around! : ) Since he's now "unretired" and is being mentioned a lot as a likely nominee in January, perhaps timestamp this with a "As of 2025"? & a few other suggestions for small edits: Daniel Day-Lewis was nominated for Oscar's Best Leading Actor category six times, as of 2025. He won three of them. Which of his six Oscar nominated performances (1990-2018) do think is the best?
