Current:

In 2018, actor and comedian Bill Cosby was expelled from the Academy for live. Accused of sexual assaulting a woman

Correction:

In 2018, actor and comedian Bill Cosby was expelled from the Academy for life when he was convicted of sexual assault and stood accused in other cases.

Possible Added Paragraph:

Cosby faced trial and was convicted on these charges, but in 2021 the Pennsylvania Supreme Court concluded that Cosby's due process rights were violated and overturned his conviction. In 2022, Cosby was ordered to pay $500,000 in compensatory damages in a civil suit in sexual assault case involving another victim.

Done.

I didn't use the possible added paragraph because I don't want to go into so much detail about it.

Thanks.

@GabrielFox, Just An Opinion, I would at least considered adding  at least "(later overturned)" since the conviction did not stand.

I thinking it misleading and unfair to not clarify this, even though it is factually correct that the AMPAS response was in direct response to the status of his case moving from being just accused to being convicted. It is telling that the AMPAS has not rescinded his lifetime ban, when the trial conviction was overturned. Plus, they waited to issue the lifetime ban and did not take action on the accusations alone, but rather waited until he was convicted in a court of law (innocent until proven guilty). However, without the clarification it leaves the impression he is currently convicted, which is false.

Another wrinkle is that the other cases were never tried and the reason his conviction was overturned was due legal procedural errors, when his case was brought to trial rather than his outright innocence of the charges.

I agree not to add the additional paragraph because any short explanation of his case is going to be incomplete and any complete one is going to be excessively lenthy. Plus, the poll is really about why he was banned, rather than about the facts of his banishment.

Clarification: In 2018, actor and comedian Bill Cosby was expelled from the AMPAS and permanently banned from attending the Oscars when he was convicted of sexual assault charges (later overturned), as well as, stood accused of multiple sexual assaults by other victims.
