Poll Suggestion: Face Your Fears

I like the title and question and I love the story (and that you tell a story) in between. (I also love that you used a colon, lol. So few people ever do.) I was a bit confused, though, by the first sentence. Since you mention waking up screaming, I thought that in the second part of the sentence ("It takes me a minute to realize..."), you are awake. I didn't realize that you are in the nightmare until a few sentences later. Therefore, I suggest this small revision: I usually have a very disturbing recurring nightmare: I am in a dark room and it takes me a minute to realize that I am not alone. My heart beats fast and strong. Panic sets in. Then I see his face ... there we are, just him and me, face to face ... and he is grinning on top of me. I wake up screaming.
