Every movie with nomenclature I, II, III, IV, V, ....

That's not really innovative.

You're right, but I could not find a movie displaying a real "roman numeral title"

V for Vendetta. But it simply is a V, not a five! ;)

@mariojacobs There are literally hundreds of movies that use Roman numerals in the movie titles. Plus, there are a half dozen articles on the topic about why their use is common in movies and TV titles.

I would recommend setting a vote floor of least 2,000 IMDb votes, but I don't think you will have trouble finding 35 movies above 50,000 IMDb votes that use a Roman numeral in the title.

Therefore, I suggest removing the five listed titles that have only a handful of votes and likely will not be voted for by polltakers.

Things with Roman numerals are supposed to be expressed ordinally, e.g. "grade I" is "the first grade" rather than "grade one" (or likewise "Act I, Scene IV, Verse IX" is "the ninth verse of the fourth scene of the first act" rather than "act one, scene four, verse nine"), but a lot of English-speaking cultures have partially gotten away from that, so we might as well just use Arabic numerals.

I don't know why you have only 5. There are numerous movies with roman literals. Here are some famous ones.

FYC:

Richard III (1995)

Henry V (1944)

Star Wars series movies

Godfather sequels

Rocky sequels

Saw sequels

Thank you, I included Richard III,

Previously all titles were sequels: Part I Part II Part V etc

Then @Breumaster pointed out correctly that that is not the real name of the movie

I think the real name of the movie is what is listed on IMDb. So, even though they are sequels, they could be eligible if you want.

Anyways, the other Henry V (1944) qualifies. Some more FYC:

Menace II Society (1993)

Jason X (2001)

Blackadder II (1986)

Phase IV (1974)

Phase IV (2001)

Edward II (1991)

Richard III (1955)

The original titles for #3, #6 and #7 don't have Roman numerals. If you are including alternate titles, please add those titles in the descriptions.

@mariojacobs You can keyword search by Roman numeral, lets say "I" to "XXXV" or "L". You may not get every numeral, but I sure you will find more than you have now.

You should read those articles, as they will provide some insight to how creatively uses of Roman numeral titles. A fair amount of the sequels use them for multiple reasons, other than just their signifying an installment number and they represent tie to something else or have a hidden meaning, like in Creed III or Jason X

@urbanemovies There are thousands of combinations, to avoid relisting movies forever, I think of picking the movies from the article

https://slate.com/culture/2012/08/roman-numerals-in-movie-titles-expendables-2-signals-that-theyre-gone-once-and-for-all.html

What is the  hidden meaning of Creed III and Jason X ?

@mariojacobs

Again, I would read up on the use of the Roman numerals in media titles to gain a better understanding. Despite that it may look like little effort goes into naming installment movies, I think it is a very conscious decision that balances artistic choices with marketing possibilities.

I think the better question is why the names of those movies aren't Creed 3 or Friday the 13th Part Ten or something else.

IMHO, Creed III both capitalizes on the installment naming method set by the Rocky movies for marketing reasons, as well as, serving as tribute or ode to the original iconic film series by using the same combining pattern of the boxing protagonists' first name and the installment number in Roman numerals.

Likewise, IMHO Jason X serves to move the franchise outside of its previous familiar setting and put him in new ones, while still revolving around the franchise's central character, hence the use of Jason. The term X has multiple meanings in general use, so I think it alludes to some of those here, other than just representing the 10th installment in the film series.

I've always expressed "Jason X" as "jayson ex", but I also know that it is the tenth Friday the 13th film (even if not tied to the day date alignment), the ninth of such films being Jason Goes to Hell.

@mariojacobs There are multiple articles available, so Google the search terms to find them. I no longer post links or I am trying to severely limit doing so, since my posts were being flagged and unreadable to others. I posted the Slate article above for you, if you type the article's title in a search engine or use its posted web address you should link directly to it.
