What do mean by new western? It is hard to tell with the question or the answer pool.

???? Western Hemisphere

ie Birds of Passage

???? Neo Western

ie Hell or High Water

???? Traditional Western (set in later part of the 19th century in the American Old West), but filmed recently

ie The Kid (2019)

???? or something else???

@urbanemovies 2 years ago, I really don't remember where I got the idea from. Usually I include the source, but in this case...

@mariojacobs, there are lot more options available and far better ones too boot. Even if you limit the scope to a narrower focus, like 2010s Revisionist Western Movies, or 2000s Neo-Western Movies, or 1990s Traditional Western Movies.  As constructed, this poll suggestion seems like a hodge podge of titles and not really an apples-to-apples comparison. Therefore, I would suggest gaining a better understanding of the Western subgenres (there are even Florida Westerns, aka Cracker Westerns set in the early 1800s) and a more focused approach toward the one that interests you most.

The revisionist Western (also called the anti-Western,[1] sometimes revisionist antiwestern[2][3]) is a sub-genre of the Western film. Designated a post-classical variation of the traditional Western, the revisionist subverts the myth and romance of the traditional by means of character development and realism to present a less simplistic view of life in the "Old West". While the traditional Western always embodies a clear boundary between good and evil, the revisionist Western does not.

Category:Neo-Western films. Films in this category reflect the traditions of the western film genre but are set in the contemporary, even urban, American West or frontiers beyond.

Florida Western can be used to describe a small number of films and literature set in the 19th century, particularly around the time of the Second Seminole War. Not a significant number of these films have been made, as most Hollywood and other genre westerns are usually located in other regions of the United States, particularly the former frontier territories of "the West".

@urbanemovies

#1 revisionist Western seems interesting. I'll check it with more details on the weekend.

@urbanemovies I decide for Florida Western movies.

The idea seems really interesting: West related movies set in the East...

FYI, the Cracker Western is a fairly small subgenre, so it might work better as a Face-Off.

Also, the term Cracker can be considered a racial slur, like Canuck. But, I know far more people who consider the label  a badge of honor, rather than as an insult.

@urbanemovies thanks. I had already included 12 movies and a short description text, abridged excerpts from Wikipedia.

@mariojacobs

Personally, I think it would be a stretch to list these six period movies (five with multi-star casts). But, I agree the question you are asking is the way to go. You could feature the cast names and a three to four line plot summary to help them decide in the answer notes of each option.

FYC,

Florida Westerns, also know as the Cracker Westerns are period Westerns set in early 1800s Florida, when the area was a fledgling territory far from its established centers of a growing United States. This unique Western subgenre incorporates most of the traditional Western themes and archetypes (including frontier living, pioneers, indians, rugged individualism and others) just 50-100 years sooner and thousands of miles more east than moviegoers associate with a traditional time-framed and located Western.

Based on their cast and plot, which of these Cracker Western movies would you most like to watch to get a taste of this unique subgenre?

@urbanemovies Thank you, cool text.

I'll save the original text here:

Florida Western can be used to describe a small number of films set in the early 1800s in Florida.

Most Hollywood westerns are usually located in the former frontier territories of "the West".

Florida Westerns can also be called Cracker Westerns.

Florida crackers were pioneer settlers in what is now the U.S. state of Florida.

Which of these Florida Western movies would you like to watch?

@mariojacobs My mistake "its" should be "the". Also, 'Joe Panther' is not a period set movie, so it should be removed.

Florida Westerns, also know as the Cracker Westerns are period Westerns set in early 1800s Florida, when the area was a fledgling territory far from the established centers of a growing United States.
