He is a pioneer in the electronic, ambient and new-age genres, and is known for organising outdoor spectacles featuring his music, vast laser displays, large projections and fireworks.

Jean-Michel Jarre holds the world record for the largest-ever audience at an outdoor event for his Moscow concert in 1997, which was attended by 3.5 million people.

Listen to Jean-Michel Jarre's most successful single, Oxygène (part IV) here.

I never heard of him, but I'm a fan of his father, Maurice Jarre.

yes, I know. 😃Initially I wanted an idea suggestion about him. Then I checked Poll Watch and you already had done a poll about Maurice, so I decided for the son, not so famous as the father but...

@cinephile

Hold on, never heard of him or never heard him?

There's a big difference because many of his hits have become electronic music standards and chances are that you happen to have heard them without knowing who made them.

That's what happened to me, I grew up in a time where you could hear music or songs without knowing where they came from and only until the Internet (and let's admit it) Peer-to-Peer sharing that I realized all these TV and radio intros, all these scores during light-and-sound festivals belonged to the same guy: JM Jarre.

Maybe only in French-speaking countries, it's a household name but I thought he'd be a little more known even outside, if I'm not wrong, he's the French artist who sold the most discs in his career.

Anyway my top picks:

Magnetic Fields 2

Rendez Vous 4

Oxygen Part 4

Oxygen Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRWlw0M-rdw

(at 1:40, it's like a music from another world)

Jean Michel Jarre was played up and down in the radio in the 80s and 90s. If someone heard radio he wasn't able to avoid hearing Jarre. Jarre made some of the catchiest tunes. :)
