"X-Mas / Chanukah" may be OK, but "similar X-Mas custom parties" makes it sound like Chanukah is a celebration of Christmas.

I've put chanukah separate, because it's a little like the Advent Period and christmas together.

@Breumaster, Great idea for a poll. Have you considered Octoberfest for a holiday. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0486551/mediaviewer/rm2087619840/ In München steht ein Hofbräuhaus: Eins, zwei, g'suffa Da läuft so manches Fäßchen aus: Eins, zwei, g'suffa Da hat so manche braver Mann: Eins, zwei, g'suffa Gezeigt was er so vertragen kann Schon früh am Morgen fing er an Und spät am Abend kam er heraus So schön ist's im Hofbräuhaus. = = = Islamic: Ramadan/Eid al-Fitr (Lesser Bairam) Japan: Gion Matsuri (A Festival of Floats)

Oktoberfest is a boozing season, not more. ;) We only decorate drunk people then. So come over, get drunk and then we'll paint your face with funny little no-go's. ;) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1411697/mediaviewer/rm2275510017/ Dan, I'd need some images for that. Eid is already on the list. I don't know what muslims decorate on ramadan. I always try to take images of decorations on that list. It's mainly about the decorations on the specific holidays. I also don't know abut the Japanese holiday you brought up. I just know they have also a fertility fest, Then they carry huge wooden "things" through the cities. Please guys remember to give me images with decorations about the holiday. I don't know if the indian image for diwali shows decorations about. It's just the people. Are they decorated somehow?

@Breumaster, I was unable to find any images on IMDb for Japan: Gion Matsuri (A Festival of Floats). Outside of IMDb the images are sparse. Based upon the Wikipedia article, the focus is not on decorations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gion_Matsuri I already made my pilgrimage to the Hofbräuhaus in Münchenn (Munich) more than 52 years ago in July 1973. I vaguely remember the waitresses carrying large number of huge beer mugs and that the street in Munich were so clean one could probably safely eat off them. My tolerance for alcohol back then was low, and is non-existent now. St. Louis, Missouri and surrounding communities has a large German, French and Italian population. Octoberfest is celebrated in many of the communities primarily founded by Germans.

You say Octoberfest is a holiday in St. Louis? That's interesting. In Germany it's not. We got Erntedankfest, which is similar to Thanksgiving. But the Oktovberfest ist just for Tourists who want to booze and misbehave. The Germans who come there also misbehave. For the city it's a big deal, because of all the hotels, shops and of course for the Oktoberfest-hosts. Normal Munich citizens often don't go there, because it's expensive and the most unsafe time in year. My mother in law was an elderly care nurse and before she was a nurse in a hospital. Each year the count of admited people rised in that time and they had all kinds of alcohol poisoning, sicknesses and injuries from drunk fights. All kinds of. Injured Eyes, popped balls, broken knees, headbones, cuts, ... she saw everything. It was just a little count from Million people a day, but was enough to stress the hospitals. The utmost people go home well. But for some the fun was over permanently. The lost and found also rises every year that time. If it wasn't for the big money each year, I suppose they would have canceled it already. It rushes in ~1.5 billion Euro business volume each year: 618 Mio Euro The Beer-selleries, eats and funrides, etc. - direct there! 559 Mio Euro Hotels, Restaurants, etc. 315 Mio Euro Taxi rides, buys, services, etc. The taxes and ancillery expences have to be paid, but at the end - for two weeks of chaos it's pretty profitable.

@Breumaster, On reflection calling Octoberfest a holiday in St. Louis is probably an over statement. However, it is celebrated in Missouri: https://www.visitmo.com/articles/oktoberfest-in-missouri History of Oktoberfest in Missouri So how did this celebration make its way to Missouri? In the 1820s, German immigrants began settling in the Missouri River Valley. The area’s unique soil, climate and rolling hills made it ideal for viticulture. Because of this, settlers established vineyards and made their homes in communities that would later become Hermann, Augusta, Rhineland and others. While they started new lives in a new land, their German roots remained deeply ingrained, and traditions like Oktoberfest endured. ...

That's great, Dan! I didn't know that. The images of the site speak a lot, especially how they dress up. A few of them look close to original. I best like the older women and her Tracht (Bavarian rustic dress). She looks very familiar. Also the elder she's dancing with. With his Lederhosn' and the moustache, he also looks like he could go home in his munich house afterwards. Great guys, greetings from Bavaria! I really didn't get how deep the German culture reached into America. We get much of your pop culture over here - and love it. I guess we are closer tied than imagined.

FYC:

In your country's Independence/National day.

I tried to find an image with many flags to reflect this option, I found this one https://www.imdb.com/title/tt29341022/mediaviewer/rm3150861057/?ref_=ttrv_ov_i but there may be a better one.

I've Changed the order of the options in order of date the holiday happens. Now it's a poll foor everyone. Except we missed some.

I know the Japanese people have some traditions, too.

I would also like to put some Japanese Holidays in, but have way to less knowledge about.

Maybe someone could suggest one or two?

Btw.: I only take examples where people decorate. Ramadan itself isn't on the list, because they don't usually decorate in the time of Ramadan, just in the end, when Eid al-Fitr, the sugar-fest starts. It's like reverse catholic. We first do our sugar fest Fasching (Carneval) and then fast off  Aschermittwoch (Ash Wednesday).

P.S.: In Ramadan they also don't dress up. It's a very modest fest, compared to Eid al-Fitr, the sugar-fest.

I got 32 options now and I think I researched all bigger holidays and holiday festivals throughout the whole world. There might at the utmost only a few missing, surely not more than a handful. So I'd count it as ready to go, if there are no further corrections, discussions or objections.

This will be one of my most elaborated polls. Most work was the researching part and the image quest! Unbelievable how less images are to find about holidays, if they are not the mot worldwide known! I've put in far more than 15 hours by now. And I feel it's a good thing, connecting the world!

I've changed the Midsommar-image, because the face of her was too sad. The one now is more positively.I wish I had a better image for Valentines day with lesser text but the same decoration-level. I made the experience that It's not easy at all to find those images, but I'll keep an open eye for some better image, even though it's already good. If I find some, I'll change them and write it down here.
