LIVE POLL: Movie Sea Pirate Captain You Most Want To Emulate

Talk Like a Pirate Day is a global celebration to enjoy channeling your inner pirate for the whole world to see every September 19th. The parodic day provides an opportunity to break out of your routine, learn some history, celebrate a bygone era and have some fun. While some simply inject an ahoy!, a blimey, a heave ho, a shiver me timbers!, or a few yo ho hos into their speech when appropriate throughout the day, others choose a next level approach that includes dressing and acting the part, in addition to a full treatment of pirate lingo infused into every conversation throughout the day. #TalkLikeAPirateDay

Which of these selected live-action movie acting performances of a sea pirate captain would you choose to emulate for their speech, their dress, their mannerisms and otherwise on "World Talk Like a Pirate Day" each year?

@dan_dassow Thanks, I missed a lot of that info, I was focused on finishing the answer pool. I found it interesting, as well as, surprising that Talk Like a Pirate Day is a religious holiday too.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day is a parodic holiday created in 1995 by John Baur and Mark Summers of Albany, Oregon, who proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate (that is, in English with a stereotypical West Country accent). It has since been adopted by the Pastafarianism movement.

Please correct:

The fun day provides an opportunity to break out of your routine, learn some history, and celebrate a bygone era.

#35:

Anthony Quinn as Captain Chavez

@Jessica I made the three corrections, by moving the fun part to the end of the first sentence, converting the second and third sentences into a compound sentence, and correcting the spelling on the last choice. The final option, Anthony Quinn as Captain Chavez ended up on the Honorable Mention list anyway.

  • Hide treasure (small trinkets or candy) around your house or neighborhood.
  • Use pirate-themed vocabulary in your clues, such as "walk the plank" or "scurvy dog."

2. Pirate-inspired Cooking:

  • Pirate Stew: A hearty stew with meat, vegetables, and spices.
  • Pirate Bread: A crusty bread with a touch of sweetness and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
  • Pirate Punch: A fruity punch with a splash of rum (if you're of age) and a dash of lime.

3. Pirate-themed Movie Night:

@dan_dassow

Thanks. I like the activities list and I think these days sprinkled around the month can make family nights more interesting. IMHO, there are lot of decent pirate-themed movies to make a decent triple-feature from each year (outside of the Pirates of the Caribbean series).

You should get points throughout the day for proper pirate lingo usage. I gotta think "cleave him to the brisket", "son of a biscuit eater", "hempen halter" would be tough to slip into a casual conversation and would be high value phrases.
