Suggestion: IMDb Poll Board's Top Five Favorite Books

The members of the IMDb Poll Board have chosen their Top 5 favorite books to read. Whose picks do you agree with most or would you like to read? List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls540290079/ https://www.imdb.com/list/ls540290079/copy This was a poll suggestion started by MyCatDuffyTookMyLaptop (previously NarniaIsAwesome) in 2019. I took the liberty to continue with it, because: 1) She hasn't been active for four years 2) I really think she would be OK with it 3) It's an awesome poll idea 4) I know she would want it to be published 5) It's timely because of one recent and one upcoming book-to-screen adaptation Here is the original thread: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdb-poll/poll-suggestion-imdb-poll-board-top-five-favorite-books/5f4a7be68815453dbaed7ab5?page=1 I've added most of the suggestions from the thread. The only unfortunate thing is that Narni hadn't made her own list yet, so she's not included in the poll. Dan, rubyfruit and Pencho - could you please post your lists again (I need an image from ruby and Pencho, and names of the authors from Dan). Tsar, Breumaster, riverotter - I've added your lists but please let me know if your picks have changed. Anyone else who wants to join: - your five favorite books, can be any type of book, doesn't have to be fiction - please give me the authors of the books, and an image to use

My original list was: Guns, Germs and Steel - Jared Diamond Una infancia llamada exilio - Federico Patán Neverending Story - Michael Ende Little Men - Louisa May Alcott Anatomía de un instante - Javier Cercas But I'll change Little Men for Patria - Fernando Aramburu They are not in a strict order, and three of them have no film or TV adaptations so you can use the Patria mini series poster as an image - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6625730/mediaviewer/rm655480833/?ref_=ttrv_ov_i

Oh my gosh, 'Guns, Germs and Steel' was a fantastic book. Federico Patán is on my reading list but haven't yet read any of his work. I heard great things, though, and now that he's on your list, I have to make him a priority.

I'm surprised he's in your reading list, I wouldn't have imagined he was really known outside Mexico. He was my uncle and the book I added is the history of his childhood, and therefore the history of my family so that's why it is important for me and in my list.

"Anatomía de un Instante" has just been released as a tv series... I have been very lucky to have a couple of word playing one of the "Guardia civiles" in the Congress... I take out of it to the vicepresident...

After filming it, my family told me that in time, he was a very good friend of my grandpa!!

Wow. I didn't know they were going to make it into a TV series, I'll watch it for sure if it is available here in Mexico and I'll make sure to take a close look at your role.

We don't have Movistar in Mexico, but the most popular Spanish productions eventually reach a streaming service. So probably it will be available. Cercas is a popular writer, and it will have viewers interested in it.

The Perfume - Patrick Süßkind The Long Walk - Stephen King Needful Things - Stephen King The Tripods - John Christopher The Wave - Morton Rhue Ididn't read so many books all-in-all, but these which still last in my memory, because I was most impressed. Honorable mention: "Quitters Inc." by Stephen King.

Breu, this was your list from five years ago which you posted in Narnia's thread: 1. The Long Walk by Stephen King 2. Needful Things by Stephen King 3. Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süßkind 4. The Tripods by John Christopher 5. The Wave by Ron Jones I can update the order, but you listed another author of The Wave - is it a different book?

Thank you for pointing out. Morton Rhue (actually Todd Strasser) wrote “The Wave” (1981) based on Ron Jones’s 1967 experiment. He adapted Jones’s account into a literary form, changing names and details, but kept the core of the events: a teacher introduces an authoritarian group experience that spirals out of control. So the correct author is Morton Rhue, aka Todd Strasser. (Like Richard Bachman aka, Stephen King). The order of the first three movies is not really set. For me these three books were the same strongly captivating. Maybe "The Wave" should move one up before "The Tripods".

If you want, you put it in order like that: 1. The Long Walk by Stephen King 1. Needful Things by Stephen King 1. Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süßkind 4. The Wave by Morton Rhue 5. The Tripods by John Christopher (user's wanted order)

It's your choice, but you said above that you wanted The Wave and The Tripods to switch places, so I did. I let the first three remain since you said "The order of the first three movies is not really set.".

I wanted t say that I would put them equally on first place. Couldn't decide.

I've corrected: 4. The Wave by Morton Rhue 5. The Tripods by John Christopher Right after naming the first three, I copied the list and forgot to change the last two. Copy and paste fail. Sorry for that. ;)

Remembering my own poll about books ... Books That Play an Important Role in the Movie ... I was inspired by the option of 'Name of the Rose' to order Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy" now. It should arrive tomorrow. A book originally written in Italy, 1307-1321. I'm very curios about. I guess it takes time to read. In the example I saw it's very old language and even there are less words, because of less things named that time, it seem to be very hard to read because of many old terms. A good training to prevent from Alzheimer. ;) P.S.: Still got Dan's recommendation "Road Out of Hell: Sanford Clark and the True Story of the Wineville " lie about here. But still didn't read it. I guess that's my procrastination. ;)

I think the cover of the movie 'The Long Walk' isn't very good. I wonder, if I can have the perfum cover for my option. Like in Pencho's option, where the 4th book is taken as the option-image. It would look way better. Just fyc. :D

Done. If it's alright with you, I'll move Perfume to #1 just because I think it looks better together with the image, and you said the first three books were equal.

Hi Jess, This was my original list and, if it's ok with you, I think that I'll go back to this one because probably the most well known book is Plath's Ariel. Plus it gives me an easy image: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0325055/mediaviewer/rm2205860609/?ref_=ttmi_mi_1_2 Ariel, Sylvia Plath Book of Light, Lucille Clifton Drown, Junot Diaz Love Poems, Anne Sexton The War, Marguerite Duras

There was one book from the original thread that I wasn't quite sure about. milenko_cvorkov posted: M. Jaksic "Haunted House" https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdb-poll/poll-suggestion-imdb-poll-board-top-five-favorite-books/5f4a7be68815453dbaed7ab5?commentId=5f4a7c9e8815453dba0c63d8 I assume he meant the Serbian poet Mileta Jakšić, but I couldn't find a book called Haunted House. I think he must have meant Nečista kuća which translates to Unclean House. I hope that's the one, but if anyone knows for sure, please tell me.

Tsar, this is a continuation of Narnia's old suggestion (please see the top post). These were your picks from Narni's thread, but if they have changed just let me know: 1. 1984 by George Orwell 2. MaddAddam Trilogy by Margaret Atwood 3. Doughnut by Tom Holt 4. Haiku: This Other World by Richard Wright 5. American Gods: The Tenth Anniversary Edition by Neil Gaiman

I don't know the exact text or much about the EE field, but I have a dislike for Schaum's texts... they are all about "hack the test" and very little about promoting an understanding the material, applying it to new and previously unseen problems, critical thinking.

Yeah, that's cool.

Some students use them to "study to the test" (as opposed to a supplement to a core text and practical work, etc.) and ace the tests, then find themselves at a loss at higher levels of study or in "the real world" due to poor conceptual understanding.
