About listing in "ADVANCED TITLE SEARCH" as per "US BOX OFFICE"

Respected Sir/Madam,

Let me clear very first that I am not so good in English. So if you don't understand what I am trying to say, please forgive me.

In "ADVANCED TITLE SEARCH" , we set parameters and search as per "US BOX OFFICE", in descending OR ascending order.

The result comes always wrong. I mean the Titles don't come in correct order.

Please check this ---  https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?title_type=feature&release_date=2023-01-01,2023-12-31&genres=!documentary,!short&sort=boxoffice_gross_us,desc

The movie title - Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, it has Gross US & Canada - $124,481,226

even then it appears in order list at - number 115. I don't understand why? Respected Sir/Madam, by mistake but we are misleaded.

It happens every time in each and every search.

Respected Sir/Madam please don't take me wrong but I strongly recommend you to upload the previous version especially for "ADVANCED TITLE SEARCH" section.

The previous version was the best, perfect and more informative than the latest one. We could see Gross US & Canada in the LIST and didn't need to go to the title page to check Gross US & Canada. Please do needful.

My last words to IMDB TEAM - After all you are doing great job and great hard work to provide all information to us. I respect and appreciate your hard work.

Thanking you.

Yours Tully,

Sunil.

Sunil: I am just an IMDb user, but I see the problem you have noted and I agree that it is a problem.

To simplify this situation, I ran a similar search:

https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?title_type=feature&release_date=2023-01-01,2023-12-31&sort=boxoffice_gross_us,desc

which is just a search for all features released in 2023, sorted by U.S. box office gross. (Most shorts wouldn't have box office grosses to report anyway, and by including documentaries the first noticeable change is that Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour gets included.)

Comparing that search to the Box Office Mojo 2023 calendar-year release listing at https://www.boxofficemojo.com/year/2023/?grossesOption=totalGrosses shows that the top 20 films are the same, and in the same order.

However, starting at #21 the lists diverge. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom should be at #21 as it is on Box Office Mojo, but the IMDb list has The Flash at #21, rather than #24 where it should be. The IMDb list demotes Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom to #116.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is at #22 on the BOM list, but down at #140 on the IMDb list. The divergences from the BOM list continue on from there. There are films in the top 50 of the IMDb list which aren't listed by BOM as reporting any box office results and may not even have had a theatrical release, including Sit Down Stand Up and Whisper: Echoes of Dread.

So I believe the staff needs to look at the "sort by U.S. box office gross" situation and see what has gone wrong with this search result.

Hiya folks - there was indeed an issue, thanks for reporting!
Give it a go now:
https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?title_type=feature&genres=!documentary,!short&release_date=2023-01-01,2023-12-31&sort=boxoffice_gross_us,desc
Should look better.

@kenster The lists are much more similar now, but I just compared the following:

https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?title_type=feature&release_date=2023-01-01,2023-12-31&sort=boxoffice_gross_us,desc

and

https://www.boxofficemojo.com/year/2023/?grossesOption=totalGrosses

(Again, I removed the restrictions on documentaries and shorts to make the two lists easier to compare.)

There are still at least two movies omitted from the imdb.com version of the list: M3GAN (should be ranked #26) and Talk to Me (should be ranked #51).

As a result, The Boy and the Heron shows up at #52 on the Box Office Mojo list but #50 on the IMDb list.

@gromit82
I think this has to due with the time filtering aspect. IMDb has different values for the release dates, as it includes the premiere event.

For example - M3GAN Has a release date of 12/7/2022 on IMDb but it shows as 1/6/2023 on BoxOfficeMojo

If you extend the time params on the imdb search back to 12/6/22 you will start to see M3GAN included where it should be (plus some other titles now, as we have a broader search)

https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?title_type=feature&release_date=2022-12-06,2023-12-31&sort=boxoffice_gross_us,desc

I kindly request you to report to the IMDB Team to upload the previous version, especially for the “ADVANCED TITLE SEARCH” section.

The previous version was better, perfecter, and more informative than the latest one. We could see Gross US & Canada in the LIST and didn't need to go to the title page to check it. Please do what is necessary.

Thanking you.

Hello @youmistry,

Our technical team has reported that the issue with the order of the titles has now been resolved. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this outage may have caused.

Thank you for your feedback as well! Just to confirm, were you able to see the Gross US and Canada without going into the title? By any chance do you have screenshots?

We'll be glad to review further.
