Add an option to disable the Popular Searches pop-down

For the love of God, is there any way to disable this UI travesty, or can it be included as a setting/flag in options? Yes, I know it only pops when you click into the search field, even before you type a single character, which is actually the main issue. Please stop doing this on the default All searches - if you switch to Title searches (or one of the other specific ones), it doesn't do it! Or let me make Title searches always the default say. This is inconsistent and really annoying, as several posts you seem to have ignored have already reported.
