difference between watch history and check ins

i always wanted to keep a detailed record of all the movies i have watched and i always put them in the check ins but after this update you have added the watch history and i wanted to know whats the difference. cause i wanted to keep them only in the watch history if you don't remove it so i don't have to put them in both. waiting for an answer asap

@Kedi The best places to start to answer this are the FAQs for the two features at: https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/new-features-updates/mark-as-watched-faq/GR2SD7Y4LZVNHUVH https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/track-movies-tv/check-ins-faq/GG59ELYW45FMC7J3 The short answer is that check-ins is the older feature designed more around tracking titles as you watch them and potentially sharing it with friends (for example, mine are at https://www.imdb.com/user/ur1000000/checkins/ and cover all the movies I have watched since we launched the feature in 2011). Whereas “Watched” is the newer feature which we are still developing and it gives people the ability to record that they have already watched a title without rating it and without needing to know when they watched it. At the moment your Watched History is private to you (and, for example, in my case, includes my TV viewing). Whenever your check-in, review, or rate a title, it is automatically added to your Watch History. Hope this helps.

so if i only wanted to keep the movies that i have watched only in watch history can i delete them from the check ins cause in watch history it is easy and it also is easier to find when searching and actor and looking for movies that i have watched of him as it shows the icon. and want to make sure that you don't remove the watch history cause then i'll lose track of all the movies that i have watched

We are not planning on removing Watch History so you are safe there, however, an easier option for you — just leave your check-ins as they are today and stop checking-in to new movies; there’s no need to delete older ones from your check-ins.
