Exclude documentaries from the IMDb Oscar badges

Why does 2023 and 2024 oscar highlight badges require best documentary? Other badges didn't need it.

@vinii_araujo We now include the Best Documentary to make the requirements for the badge more inclusive of the key Oscar categories.

@Col_Needham Thank you for your answer.

But, was this decision discussed with (or suggested by) the community? Documentaries do not appear in top 250 movies list for a reason, and I think that is the same reason they shouldn't be required for oscars badges. I mean, documentaries are a very diferent kind of movie, they are not much appealing for everyone. I could more easily agree with the foreign language category being included on the list, because it's the same kind of production.

@vinii_araujo Thanks for the feedback. The badge system is intended as a fun addition to the IMDb experience and we recently extended the coverage to 10 titles following customer feedback that the 2022 badge had too few titles and was too “easy” to obtain. Your point on the Top 250 rules vs. Oscar badges is interesting, but these are two different features of the site (other than that there’s a badge for the Top 250 each year, of course).

Our aim for the Oscar badges is to cover a minimum of 10 titles and documentary was added as one of the additional categories to consider.  We have adapted the categories for Oscar badges over the 10+ years since badges were added to IMDb and we will continue to do so.

Nonetheless we will convert this thread into an “Idea” and adapt the title such that other customers can comment and vote upon your suggestion.

Hope this helps.
