IMDb Redesigns List-Like Pages

                                                     Image

We are excited to announce the launch of IMDb’s redesigned List pages! These pages are meant to make your IMDb experience easier and more enjoyable by providing a modern, clean presentation of information with 3 different viewing types available (detailed, grid, compact) on each List page tailoring to both written and visual preferences. We have also improved mobile navigation making it easier to view IMDb features on the go. These enhancements reflect changes suggested by IMDb customers, as well as our own in-depth research designed to enhance entertainment content, discovery, and navigation.  For more information about the redesign you can review our List Page FAQ.

We hope you enjoy these latest improvements, and thank you for continuing to make IMDb the world’s most trusted source for movie, TV, and entertainment content.

I went to edit some lists today and I was surprised/annoyed to find the "Edit Larger" option for list editing is gone. While the editing mode retains pages, it still forces me to use the ugly drag and drop system. When was this change made and why? Why was it not announced? IT IS NOT HELPFUL. It is harder to edit large lists this way and the page contains less useful information. PLEASE REVERSE THIS CHANGE. Hi @List_o_mania, thanks for your comment. It sounds like you're looking for the position input method of moving items within a list. You can still access this: if you click/tap the triangle on the right of your list item, it will open a modal where you can specify a new position number for it. I hope that helps!

I have discovered this, but it is still less helpful than the old way. Also it seems strange that whenever I add a new item on any page, it always appears on the last page only. With the drag and drop system in place, why can I not just go directly to the page I'm adding an item to, have it appear there, and then I can drag it up? Right now we get the worst of both systems, so it's just obnoxious. I also don't like how the only place to add new names is at the top of the page. This is very counterintuitive, because new entries always appear at the bottom of the page. So now I have to scroll all the way to the top to add something, only to scroll all the way back down to edit it. On the old edit larger system I didn't have this issue, and I still do not understand why that was taken away.

Thank you--that's helpful feedback on how you navigate within your lists while editing. I'll pass these notes to the team for consideration as we continue to iterate on the experience.

@ SAR Can you please have the developers take a look again at my request to show only 100 or 200 titles per page? See my last post on page 8, about the reason why this is important.

This is a really strange and annoying problem, but when I'm editing a list on a single page, I can't open the next or previous page by right clicking the appropriate button and selecting "Open in new tab." Instead I have to duplicate the page and change the URL to go to the page I want, which is annoying on desktop and impossible on mobile. This is especially frustrating because the pages are grouped in multiples of 250, but I tend to organize my lists in groups of 100. The 250 entries per page has always been arbitrary, and not being able to open in a new tab has made that all the clearer. I still would prefer that the "Edit larger" function be reinstated, as it was infinitely superior to this new version, but if we're stuck with it then can we at least have one that functions like a normal web page? @List_o_mania Yes, I also made this comment about not being able to open a list in a new tab, both when editing or just navigating your lists. And I would also like to get an option to see only 100 or 200 titles per page. Especially because I use the Grid View (with 4 rows), so it messes up my ability to place the movies in a certain order, especially when adding titles. This is because currently the last row will only have 2 titles instead of 4, because 250 is not dividable by 4 of course.

@List_o_mania and @Navin2000, I've added the latest comments about being able to open pages in new tabs as further context for the team to consider in prioritization. I also have the note about a setting for custom page sizes (as I mentioned before, the current 250 accommodates IMDb's Top 250 chart). Thank you both for the feedback!

@SAR Thanks for the great support, and let's hope the developers will soon add these features!

@SAR It probably already has been mentioned, but today I noticed that the ''Your Ratings'' list is once again one huge list, without pagination? Is this a bug or has this never been changed?

@Navin2000 we haven't added pagination to Your Ratings yet but are working on it (they have some key differences from Lists so the work there is still in progress). Thanks for your patience!

Hi, I know that pagination hasn't been added to the Your Ratings page yet (hopefully in process), but a recent change seems to have removed the list order number from entries. Am I correct, or have I somehow changed the display format and there's a way to get it back? I quite like to page down and see how many films I've watched/rated in the last week, month, six weeks, whatever. Or how long it's taken me to rate the last 50 films. That was simple when there was a number against each entry but now I would actually have to count (!)

Another "improvement" they've made that removes functionality but doesn't actually provide any benefit.

Hi, since I have to use the new site to edit title lists, it needs roundabout 5 seconds per title to add items. Tested with Windows 11 and MS Edge and Firefox, each with latest updates. What can I do, old version of the page only took me 1-2 seconds. Thanks for your help Chris Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation Link : https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdbcom/adding-item-to-a-title-list-takes-lot-of-time/6818f97a8c442a5fd1c7b303 Title : adding item to a title list takes lot of time

Hi @czender, sorry for missing this when it was merged into the thread. Could you share examples of lists where you are adding items, as well as whether you're adding from a title page or from within the list editing experience? Thanks!

Hi SAR, there's no need to give examples, it doesn't matter if I edit new lists, old lists. For me it seems like the larger the list, the larger the time you need to add an item. In my eyes, not the actual adding to the list takes so much time, the reordering of the list and calculating the positions after adding the item is, what takes longer and longer if the lists are growing. For me it seems like the old page has been programmed different = less content to load = less content to calculate = much faster in lager lists. Chris PS: People's lists get slower too, but are faster than title'S lists in general

@czender sorry to hear you are experiencing this slowness so frequently and we appreciate the feedback--we will incorporate your notes for future optimizations.
