IMDb Redesigns Profile Pages

We're excited to unveil our redesigned IMDb Profile pages! Your profile now serves as a comprehensive archive of your activity, including your curated lists, ratings, reviews, and check-ins. With a refreshed interface, you'll have an easier time revisiting your entertainment experiences and personalizing your profile. This update brings greater flexibility and control to all our users, allowing you to keep your profile current and personalized, whether you're at your desk or on the go.

Please Note: To access badges, ratings breakdowns, and polls, you can click the link at the top of your new profile page.

For more details about the new Profile pages, please review the "Your Profile" FAQ and Community Guidelines.

Our team is constantly working to make our technology faster, more efficient, and more scalable. We hope you'll enjoy these enhancements as we continue our mission to improve your experience. Your feedback is invaluable to us – we encourage you to share your thoughts and questions in this thread.

I got the updated profile page today and I can't say I'm very impressed. Not only is everything spaced out very awkwardly with a lot of dead space in between, but I couldn't find the Ratings Analysis feature. This was one of my favourite features and actually one of the main reasons I bother rating movies and series as I like keeping track of my viewing habits by year, genre, etc., so I seriously hope this isn't being removed and that it's only being updated. I switched back to the original setup immediately but that obviously won't be an option forever.

@joshuawarrenmedia Thanks for the feedback. Please see the introduction to the new page:

No need to worry; these are some of the features still being rebuilt.

Hope this helps.

Glad to hear it.

I'm assuming the page won't be as sparse in the future either? I'm guessing the redesign has to do with phone use? In its current, unfinished, form I feel there's far too much negative space.

@joshuawarrenmedia We appreciate your feedback and are continuing to work toward building out features long term on this page. Please note, if you have the IMDb app installed you can login and find a version of the ratings analysis on your profile page that will look similar to this (Android example).

will this include top rated genres and years? I would really miss thoose features if they dont come back.

@Jack I don't really use IMDb on my phone. I hope this will eventually come back on the desktop version of the profile as well?

@valkyrslayer @joshuawarrenmedia  We are still in early planning stages and we appreciate your feedback as we consider our long term approach for this feature. In the meantime, on the website today, you can also organize and filter your ratings via Advanced Search. You can filter "Rated by you" to "Restrict to titles I've seen" and then use combinations of the other filters available such as "IMDb ratings" and "Release year" to look at various organized lists of your personal ratings results.

Also as mentioned, a version of ratings analysis is available on your profile in the app showing distribution by rating level, which if clicked, will take you to a list view for that set of titles which you can further filter and sort.

Today there was a change of choices that left out my reviews or "activity".  How can I now see all my reviews, instead of only all my ratings?

@bluedusk You can access your reviews simply by scrolling down the page -- the order on the page is Ratings | Watchlist | Lists | Reviews.  You can also click the "Reviews" link in the "More" menu near the top of the page.

Hope this helps.

One of my favourite things about the sidebar was seeing how many productions I watched from a specific year, my most watched genres, the ratings I gave to every production from 1 to 10.

Removing it will be a dealbreaker to several users, if y'all remove this people will look for another site because having that sidebar was so god damn fun.

I'll add an example since I never imagined you'd remove that

Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled Are you removing the sidebar with info about the stuff you watched?

This was my biggest concern too. These stats are one of the main reason why I rate movies/shows on the site. Even though they apparently will put it back, I hope it stays on the sidebar as the current version just looks empty with all that dead space.

Why? Why are they doing this, the new site, like all the other esthetic updates to imdb is awful and disguisting. The old profile site is simple and effective, why, why do the have to do this? I know that it's soon gonna be switched to the new version permanently, but please, I beg you, keep the legacy site as an option.

As much as the new (now old some years) IMDB version is ugly and less user friendly VS the "reference view" for those who don't want to just look at a few large images but want to see data - this profile change is bad.

You have just decided to give way less information in the same space making images bigger. Bad job. If I had problems of sight I could just enlarge the details...

Since I'm confident you don't care about "serious" users (and probably not even about usage stats: you just stick to these bad decisions unless something disruptive happens) I guess there's no way to have you keep the "old" profile. Still can you at least introduce in the "account settings" - just like for the "reference view" - a new flag that sets the account "legacy" view as default for the users that want that?

Agreed. There's a few minor good updates, but the profile page looks so empty now. Even though several features will be added back eventually, all the dead space around each "section" looks really ugly on a desktop/laptop.

@Ladiloque Thank you for your feedback, we do not have long term plans to retain the legacy page, but will make it available while we build out the new version of the page that provides a more secure and accessible page for us to rollout new features over time.

I love this new design! But can you also add the “follow” button and user search?

I agree that this would be a really nice feature, being able to follow friends and keep up with what they are watching and liking. Seeing their watchlist etc.

Adding the feature to see "What to watch together" comparing your watchlist with their watchlist would also be splendid.

The new profiles look pretty good. However I notice that there has been added a bio max length, which is a bit annoying.

Also, seems like some yank still works for changing the register date:

@Nomissimon10 thank you for your feedback and for reporting the join date issue. This appears to be pre-existing with the old version of the page for that account, so something we're investigating further.

Also, it has already been mentioned, but graphs are a really nice way of viewing a profile. So it would be sad if these were removed instead of expanded upon. I have given examples of graphs a few times before, but I will show a few here again:

Anyone clicking on the 'Feedback: tell us how we are doing link' will NOT go to a page where we can leave 'feedback'. All we do is go to the usual FAQ page. I want to leave feedback, but I can't, because frankly, IMDb don't really want it: asking for feedback is just another PR exercise. Cynical? Not at all: if it were not, why are we merely taken to a page of 'how do to' links.

So here is my feedback: in the general 'redesign' useful features and ease of use has, pretty much as usual, gone up the swannee. Once you could click on 'activity', then 'my reviews' if you wanted to see them. Now you can't, and not only that it is not at all obvious HOW you can.

Whose bright idea was that?

NB Even here you can't actually post a comment unless you choose a 'topic'. Well, none actually covers what I want to say. Why not?

Today when I logged into my imdb profile I was very disappointed to see that the Ratings Analysis graphs had disappeared. This is one of the features I use most on imdb and the main reason I rate movies. I don't understand why this option has been removed in the new design of the profiles, but I hope they will be implemented again or for me it would no longer make sense to continue voting the movies on your website. I see I'm not the only person missing the graphics. I already saw another of the functions I used the most disappear from the site: accessing the list of all the movies released in a specific year by clicking on the year of any movie of that same year. I still don't understand why that function was changed, since what happens now when you click on the year of a movie doesn't make any sense and it used to be much more useful. I still miss that option.

Two words: AT LAST! :)

Of course I can't wait for the old features, such as the badges, to re-appear, but I highly enjoy the fact that the profile page is now consistent with the rest of the site.

Just out of curiosity, is there any chance that in the future we will be able to decide in what order the profile features/sections are displayed? For example, I rarely use ratings, so I could put the Watchlist on top. That's not a must by any means, but could be quite handy in some situations.

When will the “Recommended for You” section reappear?

I find this to be one of the most useful areas of my Profile page (as it is personal to me and not some sort of generalised “what to watch” summary).   Please restore this ASAP.

Thanks

@derek_duerden Your recommendations are now available on the IMDb home page in the section "What to Watch > Top Picks" or directly via https://www.imdb.com/what-to-watch/top-picks/  -- this page has more recommendations (48) vs. the old profile widget (24).

Hope this helps.

@Col_Needham Hmm- trying this new “What to Watch” feature today I got this message:  “Looking for recommendations?  Check out some popular movies and TV shows, then come back to get personalized recommendations.”

This is bizarre and unhelpful.  Given that I have 1700 ratings and 317 reviews, personalised recommendations for me must be pretty easy for your algorithm…. I don’t want to waste my time looking at “popular” stuff.
What is going on here?  It was being more sensible a couple of weeks ago.

The new Profile Page is just great, but I am using Bio as a summarize of what I like. I include shortcuts to some lists I created, but also I included some lists in there. For example I included a list named "Most Influential Men", because I wasn't able to make that list due to lack of titles such as Isaac Newton. My Bio is still there, but I can't edit it, since the character limit is lowered to 1K from 15K or 20K. Please I want to include some details to my Bio, increase the limit to 20K at least. The new profile page is really great, except for the character limit, there are no downsides I find compared to the old one.

Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled The NEW character limit of Profile Bio is not enough at all.
