imdb.com gives me 403

Hi,

I cannot get to www.imdb.com from any device with my home IP.  If I disconnect and use cell tower or simply VPN, I can get there just fine.

The server response has this in its header:

awselb/2.0

I noticed my query has an aws-waf-token cookie, implying they are using aws web application firewall.

I created a ticket with AWS support, and they said I have to contact the vendor as Amazon is not responsible for any customized blocks.

AWS response:

We reviewed the CloudFront logs associated with the request ID you provided for a request to `imdb.com`. These logs indicated the request was blocked due to the web application firewall (WAF) configured on the site. It should be noted, because the CloudFront distribution and the associated WAF responsible for blocking the request is owned by a different AWS account, I do not have visibility on the specific WAF rule that might have blocked the request. With that said, WAFs can block requests based on multiple factors such as IP reputation, geo-restrictions, or other security measures implemented by the website owners.

I assure you it's not a geo-restriction as I'm in San Diego and this site has always worked.

I've also searched my IP address in many blocked IP databases, and I'm not in any of them.

I also tried to get the ISP to change my IP, but they are too incompetent to perform this simple task after fighting with them for an hour.

I refuse to accept VPN as a permanent solution.

Any ideas?

Hi @weller9999 & @alex_hartsell -

Can you confirm if you are now correctly able to access the site?

I get this:

403 ERROR

The request could not be satisfied.

Request blocked. We can't connect to the server for this app or website at this time. There might be too much traffic or a configuration error. Try again later, or contact the app or website owner.
If you provide content to customers through CloudFront, you can find steps to troubleshoot and help prevent this error by reviewing the CloudFront documentation.

No issue logging in and then I get a 403 Forbidden message and can't access the site, despite re logging in and rebooting.

I just get a 403 Forbidden Error.

Why?

It specifically does this when I click on a title.

It's funny - i get 403 when I try to view this thread! I have to VPN so that my IP is different.

Then, it allows me to view responses in this thread ;)

Not sure how I'm supposed to do my updates when I cannot get any page to load.

Not a good start to my potential 23rd consecutive year in the Top Contributors.

I worked around the issue by forcing a new IP with my ISP.  I went into my router, cloned MAC address and put in a random hex # to force a change, and then rebooted.  I picked up a new IP from the ISP.  Now imdb works.   So, I guess a lot of our IPs are banned for some unknown reason.  The problem still exists.  Any other customer who picks up my old IP will not be a happy camper though!
