Issue in the IMDb Top 250 Movies list for 1996

Hello everyone,

I’ve come across an issue in the IMDb Top 250 Movies list for 1996 (https://www.imdb.com/list/ls058374925/?my_ratings=exclude). Specifically, I noticed that an episode from Babylon 5, episode: Babylon 5: The Gathering of 1993 has been included in the list, which seems incorrect (number 81 in the list). Since Babylon 5 is a TV series, not a movie, it doesn't align with the criteria for this particular list. I thought I’d bring it to your attention in case it requires a revision.

Thanks for your time and attention to this matter.

Best regards,

Alfie

@alfie_baxter Thanks for highlighting this, however, this is not really an error.  Back in 1996 (which was before IMDb supported full episodes), this title was categorised as a TV-movie and those were eligible at the time.  It is a historical anomaly rather than a bug.

Similarly, the same list contains three shorts as those were not excluded from the Top 250 at the tiime either -> https://www.imdb.com/list/ls058374925/?title_type=short

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for the clarification! I didn’t realize that IMDb categorized titles that way back in 1996, so I appreciate you providing that context. It makes sense now, and I can see how the inclusion of TV-movies and shorts was a different practice at the time.

Thanks again for taking the time to explain this!

Best regards,
Alfie
