Issue with “Popular Searches”

Oh, one other VERY, EXTREMELY annoying thing... 😊 EVERY damn time I simply go to the IMDB page, or ANY page on the site actually, the damn drop down list for 'POPULAR SEARCHES' drops down EVERY damn time and covers half the page! It is STUPIDLY annoying! So, every time, EVERY time... I have to then click somewhere on the page to get that huge dropdown list to disappear so I can SEE the bloody page! PLEASE fix that too! PLEASE! I'd post a picture of how bloody annoying that looks, but I can't do that here I don't think... Thanks!

@Latheofheaven Thanks for the problem report and sorry for the inconvenience. The feature is not supposed to operate like this at all. Please can you let us know on what device, browser, and operating system you are seeing this behaviour? Also please could you follow the steps in https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/common-issues/why-is-imdb-displaying-differently-on-my-browser/GF2ZAR69V859XLHF and let us know. In particular do you have any browser plug-ins or browser setting which place the keyboard focus in the search bar automatically as this is the likely cause of the issue? Thanks.

Hey, thanks kindly for your reply sir, I really appreciate it! I am using a basic PC W10 Chrome, no unusual plugins or extensions and this behaviour does not appear on any other site other than IMDB. Good point about a plugin/extension that places the focus on the search field, however IMDB is the only site where this happens. You know, I just NOW thought of something... The shortcut I use to go to IMDB actually MIGHT navigate directly to the search bar. But no... you know why that is not the case? Because EVERY page I go to, for example, 'External Reviews' or 'User Reviews' which is simply a link from the page ALWAYS causes that dropdown effect on EVERY page no matter how I get there. It does this on every page on IMDB, so it can't be that. I will go to the link you provided and see what I can enter there. Thank you again! Jamie.

Okay, I did check that page. I checked with all my adblocker extensions disabled. Same thing. However, I DID open IMDB.com in an incognito window and it DIDN'T do that! How about that... I also signed in there and after signing in it still did NOT do that. So, something that would be different on my standard browsing window and an incognito window. I guess the next thing to do is disable ALL extensions and try to open IMDB in a normal window. I'll try that and see what happens.

Okay... I don't know WHICH extension is doing this, but I did use the 'Disable All Extensions' button and then went to IMDB.com. And yeah, it was completely fine. I was signed in and everything. So, I guess I'm going to have to go through all my extensions and figure out which one is doing this, because I can't think of any other cause since it doesn't do it with all extensions disabled. Thanks for helping me to check this out and HOPEFULLY (uh oh, all capitals! 😁) I can figure out which one may be causing this. Appreciate your help! Jamie.

@Latheofheaven Thanks for following-up and do let us know which plugin / setting is the root cause as it will help other customers who may experience the same issue.

Sure thing! I haven't yet tried to narrow it down, but I'm thinking that it has to be it due to when I turned off all the extensions that behaviour stopped. Although, off the top I can't imagine which one would do that... If I figure it out I will post here which one it is.

Well... I guess it serves me right... Wouldn't you know, and I had totally forgotten I had this extension, it is one that is SUPPOSED to provide a 'Cleaner' interface to... Wait for it... IMDB! 😁 Yep... the extension is called, 'Clean IMDb 5.1 A cleaner look for IMDb. Full width pages without ads' THAT is the culprit. Honestly, I had forgotten all about it. But yeah, as soon as I disabled that extension, that behaviour stopped. I suppose that's what I get for trying to 'Improve' the appearance of IMDB. BTW, as per my first post about why my reviews keep getting rejected, I was told by I believe two IMDB employees that it was because I was using all capital letters in certain words. So, I resubmitted the review with all of those taken out where the entire word is capitalized, EXCEPT right at the end of my review I add the line - HOW I RATE MOVIES which is indeed in all CAPS. BUT... I have used that same line before at the end of my reviews and they were approved just fine. I'm GUESSING (see how I use the caps... 😊 there's no other way to add emphasis) that maybe you folks have updated your software and whatever AI you are using flags ANY words that are all caps, IDK... So, I've resubmitted it for a 3rd time with NO words that are all caps, and I'm hoping that will do it. It IS a bit of a pain TBH...

@Latheofheaven Thanks for confirming the culprit. You might want to contact the author of the script and let them know.

Good suggestion... I just feel kinda embarrassed that the very thing causing it was an extension to make IMDB more clean looking... 😕 I KNOW I was trying to shoehorn my other issue about all caps, but I guess I'll just hafta wait and see if my 3rd submission goes through. You know, I've been writing reviews for movies here probably for well over 15 years and I've written hundreds. It's kinda a bugger that all of the sudden your AI keeps flagging my reviews because I use two or three words in all caps... But, I guess I'll see what happens. It's been fine all these years, don't know why suddenly these things are issues...
