Issues accessing IMDb.com on a Mac - Application error: a client-side exception has occurred

Past few weeks IMDb page loads for 1 second on my Mac then switches to a blank page w/this message: Application error: a client-side exception has occurred. Also, my login account has disappeared & I'm being directed to Amazon. If I turn off Javascript now I can proceed part way but still can't enter the page unless I login which I can't do if Javascript is turned off.

hi. Indeed nothing (on my side) changed in the last 10dd meaning no software/OS update. Still at one point the imdb page would last only 2 second before showing the error message. I have also tried private tab mode and nothing changed. I don't use VPN or antivirus. The adblocker is disabled Deleting specific cookies didn't help Funny thing is that I don't have any issue with this very page or the help page you linked above. It seems "unhappy" only "movie" pages, possibly there is something in there not liked by Safari. Well, nothing serious because now I know that I have to use another browser. p.s. possibly the hint is in the console java text I posted

Older versions (still being used by 10-15% of users) are a problem for a few banking, shopping, cc sites. Anyway, OS is 10.15.7 Catalina, and Safari is 15.6.1 (highest upgrade possible). And, yes on my other computer OS 18.6 Sequoia, and Safari 15.6.1 IMDb works fine. Problem occurs the instant I click on https://www.imdb.com; actually IMDb website appears for a fraction of a second then error message. Yes, I frequently clear cache & history - doesn’t matter. Can’t log in because only error message occurs. Thanks for the concern.

We have several questions from the engineering team to help diagnose the cause of the issue. For everyone on this thread experiencing the problem, please let us know: 1. What version of Safari are you using — you can easily check via https://www.whatismybrowser.com/detect/what-version-of-safari-do-i-have If your Safari is below version 15.4 then please upgrade to a newer version. 2. Does the problem only occur when visiting IMDb.com while logged in to IMDb? You can confirm this by testing in a private browsing window without logging in. 3. If none of the above helps, please try clearing any IMDb cookies —see https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/manage-cookies-sfri11471/mac Thanks in advance.

My version is 16.6. Same thing happens if I try to reach IMDB through a private browser window. Cleared cookies and still not working.

Same problem, also Mac/Safari user who used to always have IMDB running next to Netflix, then suddenly locked out with an accusation from the error code about a client-side error. Initially assumed IMDB was under attack, but when I still couldn't access after several days, I checked IMDB's status via isitdownrightnow.com, and found IMDB was still viable. The block was sudden, and is immovable, and is certainly an action taken by the site.

Please see the advice elsewhere on this thread, namely: The IMDb tech team reports that these older versions of Safari are out of support by Apple and therefore are also unsupported on IMDb, sorry. We recommend: 1. If possible, update your OS to get Safari to 18.6 or higher. 2. If you are unable to update your OS, use the latest version of Chrome or Firefox instead. Hope this helps.

Thanks to those who have replied with your browser versions. The IMDb tech team reports that these older versions of Safari are out of support by Apple and therefore are also unsupported on IMDb, sorry. We recommend: 1. If possible, update your OS to get Safari to 18.6 or higher. 2. If you are unable to update your OS, use the latest version of Chrome or Firefox instead. We will arrange for https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/common-issues/why-is-imdb-displaying-differently-on-my-browser/GF2ZAR69V859XLHF to be updated to make it clear that Safari 18.6 or higher is now required to access IMDb.

W/regard to the thoughtful responses I now offer this conundrum: I cannot upgrade because my Mac (Windows faces similar issue) is a bit on the elderly side & maxed out on upgrades, but still functions. Corporate throw away monied materialism is trashing our planet w/planned buy again, obsolesce, yes some mostly (& understandable) cc/banks/online shopping, etc. w/security concerns require it, but some notable don',t, e.g. USBank, AMEX, Amazon, Kroger, eBay, YouTube, Costco and others still allow older OS to have access. Just need that bit of extra coding effort to be inclusive. None of those solutions work for me. I will simply follow the path of least resistance and go to Rotton Tomatos instead.

The argument that Apple no longer supports upgrades to some older versions of OS & Safari as a reason for not coding the current IMDb does not quite ring true as Apple stopped upgrades (e.g. Catalina 10.15.7) a couple of years ago yet IMDb worked during all that time until it changed a month or so ago. And, as mentioned before many institutions such as major banks, cc, online shopping still support those Macs despite money being involved & not just browsing a movie title. I don't understand how this has been labeled "solved." IMDb is just fine with Mac users without Safari 18.6 or higher not being able to access their site? Most will not download Chrome or Firefox just for IMDb.

As user Col_Needham states:

"We will arrange for https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/common-issues/why-is-imdb-displaying-differently-on-my-browser/GF2ZAR69V859XLHF to be updated to make it clear that Safari 18.6 or higher is now required to access IMDb."

But as user westsideschl states:

"Just need that bit of extra coding effort to be inclusive."

What's the move, IMDb? It's also an issue on IMDb Pro when researching talent agencies by the way.

I have an older Mac computer and can not download the IMDb app onto it. I have disabled the Malware and it's Ad blockers, and still can not bring up the app to download it onto the computer.  Any suggestions of what to try?
