List-related questions (with entries no longer existent)

Hi I realized that if you have a title or person in your list and the respective page is deleted because it existed twice or for whatever other reason, there stays a gap in your list, like for example entry number 137 is still there and next is entry number 139, as if these were successive numbers. Is there a way to remove the missing entries noneteless, so the counting is correct again as well because I saw that there is also problems with ordering as a consequence, like then I put in somebody new and want them at like 140 or so, it is messed up that the entry is put on position 139 or so instead. The numbers may not be correct, just as an example, but there is a bug for sure.
