Private notes on films

Every so often someone here asks about having non-shared notes associated with movies. I swear that if IMDB would implement that, I would be locked in as a regular user. I'd even pay money for an IMDB Semi-Pro or something if it allowed personal notes! It would just be so handy to have pre-watch notes like, "This was on DR's list of best films of ideas, published May 2024 in ____." IMDB would become my all-purpose database. From a programming and data-storage perspective, this seems like a modest lift. Why not bump it to the top of the feature-development list?

@CinemaCinemo If we understand your description properly then IMDb has had this feature since 1999. Are you using the web site, the Android app or the iOS app? The instructions for adding notes to list items vary by interface, but on the web site, click “Edit” in the upper right of the page for your list and then in edit mode, there’s an “Add a note” label under each entry, where you can type your note. Hope this helps.

Ah, that's handy, and I will use it. But no it's not quite what I was hoping for. This will add a note to a film only within an individual list. I would like to annotate a film so that wherever it appears I can see the note. Why? Well, I use the lists flexibly, and I put movies in more than one list and periodically move them around. With the current system (unless I misunderstand) every note is specific to a film+list instance, so I'd need to manage the notes for every distinct film+list instance. For example, I have watch lists for multiple film-watching partners. I might put a film in the lists for partners A, B, and C. Any info I associate with the film regarding, say, who recommended it would have to be entered three times. I also have multiple lists for multi-episode shows I'm watching with other people (just to remind me that I'm watching them--hey, it's easy to forget, given the chaos of multiple streaming services). And when I have watched a show I like to move it into a gross set of thumbs-up, ok, and thumbs-down lists. All of that means that notes associated only with a film IN A SPECIFIC LIST aren't preserved in a way that works for me. So...still hoping for a notes field that appears wherever the film appears! Thanks.
