Sorting by Genre, year, etc.

It used to be that on pretty much any list of movies, including my own ratings, I could sort and filter based on genre, year of release and some other variables, but now (for a good while now) that feature has been gone.

Why?

This makes ZERO sense, why take away an actual useful feature? What is the purpose of reducing the usability of your own platform? Who makes these stupid decisions and who is stupid enough to approve them?

Why??????

Hi, Unknown. Welcome to the forum of/for the IMDb Community! You may have to settle for employing the technique outlined by bderoes in at https://www.imdb.com/list/ls027342264/ in the description section thereof. Just to note, I don't remember the way the thing used to look and function. Would you be so kind as to explain further?

Why did this happen? I couldn't say for sure, but the IMDb site authorities, including Col Needham, the founder of IMDb, have to perform cost-benefit analyses every time there is a need to upgrade underlying software of the website, which may be as often as some other popular websites are upgraded, but sometimes spectacular features wind up being scrapped and left for consideration of reimplementation at a time in the distant future. Based upon what Col has told us before, the decision makers behind IMDb's progress often take into consideration how many visitors to the site actually use certain features on a frequent basis, and if the figures just aren't high enough, then the features may be sacrificed, so to speak, at some point, in order to the IMDb developers to focus on other things.

@jeorj_euler Thanks for directing @Unknown to @bderoes advice.

In terms of sorting & filtering your own ratings, in addition to the options on https://www.imdb.com/list/ratings please see advanced title search at https://www.imdb.com/search/title/ (with help at https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/discover-watch/using-the-advanced-search-feature/GLUEUYWPQNPTEVPU) where you can sort / filter your ratings via a large number of parameters.  Specifically, you will want to use the option "Restrict to Titles I've Seen" towards the end of the form.

For example,  all the western movies from 1980 onwards in your ratings with over 5,000 votes, sorted by your rating ->  https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?title_type=feature&release_date=1980-01-01,&num_votes=5000,&genres=western&my_ratings=restrict&sort=my_ratings,desc&count=250

Hope this helps.
