Top Shortfilms

Hey Imdb Staff.

Here is an Idea I thought you might like to give some consideration: How about creating a TOP Shortfilm Section? Also, you could create a section for the TOP Animated Movies (i.e. Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, Ghost in the Shell, etc...). Why? Quite simply put: there are some gems hidden here that, by doing this, would be given rightly deserved special notice, which they otherwise would and do not get.

Hope this comes through...

Tiger: I agree that a top short film section would be a good idea.

In regard to the top animated movies, though, the Top 250 page (https://www.imdb.com/chart/top/) has a sidebar with links to the Top Rated Movies by Genre, including Animation as one of the genres (https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?genres=animation&sort=user_rating,desc&title_type=feature&num_votes=25000,). And, in fact, Spirited Away and Grave of the Fireflies are currently ranked #2 and #4 respectively on that list, with Ghost in the Shell at #44.

@gromit82 There's also a top short films link in the same Top Rated Movies by Genre section of the Top 250 page: https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?genres=Short&sort=user_rating,desc&title_type=Short&num_votes=25000,&ref_=chttp_gnr_18

The 25,000 vote threshold might be a little high, but can be updated, for example -> https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?genres=Short&sort=user_rating,desc&title_type=Short&num_votes=5000,&ref_=chttp_gnr_18

[at last an advantage to Short also being a genre :-)]

Col: I don't see that link to the top short films:

The list of Top-Rated Movies by Genre goes from Sci-Fi to Sport with no "Short" in between. In fact, the only time the word "short" appears in that page is at the bottom of the page:

The Top Rated Movie list only includes feature films.

  • Shorts, TV movies, and documentaries are not included

@gromit82 Sorry about that -- I had not appreciated that the new chart pages were still only being shown to 50% of customers  -> https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdbcom/imdb-charts-page-redesign/649b20835d3fd0683ca2e908

On the new page ->

It should be launching more widely soon.

Thank you for your Responses.

What I had in mind, was a little more spiced up list then, i.e. the TOP 250 Format Design, with a specific line that says that Title X is ranked XY of 250 - or something like that. And yes, the 25000 Vote Treshhold is faaaarrrrr toooo high for shortfilms. I would downsize it to maybe 3000. Because, let's be frank here: who goes out of his way to lookup, let alone rate shortfilms, en pair to featurelenght films?

I, for one, would welcome a spiced up design, and a lower treshhold of mandatory votes.

PS: For god's sake, change the award display to what it was before. (Oscars and others, should have the winners displayed first, then a border line to eventual nominations of the same award).

@TheTigerInMe1980 Thanks for clarifying.  We have converted this back to an Idea post so other customers can comment and vote upon it.

For feedback on the awards pages, the best way to reach the appropriate team is to make the same point on the announcement thread at https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdbcom/imdb-web-name-and-title-subpages-redesign/642dbf75766515012bcfaec7
