Trailers are showing blurry on pc

If i'm watching trailers on my phone from the app, they are perfect quality.

But on the normal "pc"website all trailers are blurry and blocky.

Even in the preview window you see some blocks (still watchable), but in fullscreen (i have 4k) you can hardly watch without hurting your eyes.

Why are the trailers not in better quality on the website? It looks like they are like 480p with no option to select quality.

Is it the integrated "JW player" that plays the video's that is not able to stream better?

I believe the quality was a lot better on the "old" website.

@Superbotje The quality of the trailer playback is determined automatically by your network bandwidth (and is unrelated to any recent redesigns).  You might want to look at the advice in https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/common-issues/why-is-imdb-displaying-differently-on-my-browser/GF2ZAR69V859XLHF in case browser settings, VPNs, or ad blockers are interfering with the experience.

If not, the other factor may be the source material for the trailers; are these trailers for recent movies hosted directly on IMDb or older ones? Perhaps share a few example titles/trailers where you are seeing quality issues and we can take a look.

Thank you for your reply.

I have a 1 Gb fiber connection. Maybe it was the VPN, turned it off and it seems a bit better now.

But with VPN i get like 930 Mbit .. so that shoudln't be a problem speedwise.

Nvidia RTX 3060 and 32 GB system ram shouldn't be a problem either.

For example with the new Aquaman and with the new Hunger games, if i click on "About this video" it sais

- Viewport 2560x1440

- Resolution mode / 854x480 / manual

So i think it's the upscaling to from that to 4k resolution that is the problem.

Guess i'll have to live with it then, unless 4k trailers become available. (but then you will probably get a bandwith problem)

@Superbotje Thanks.  We have asked the video team in case they can do anything to improve the situation (ticket reference #P112314883).

Hi @Superbotje -

Thank you again for your feedback regarding IMDb desktop video quality.  While we have escalated the issue to the video team for visibility, we are not always able to take immediate action on every issue.  We are closing this thread, however, please be assured your feedback has been captured and is being tracked.
