Upcoming Changes to Your IMDb Profile Experience

We’re reaching out to inform you of some upcoming changes to your IMDb profile experience.  As part of our ongoing efforts to improve and streamline our platform, we will be deprecating several legacy profile features in the coming weeks.

 Starting July 14th, the following features will no longer be available:

* Compared to You
* Ratings Distribution

While the previous version of your profile is no longer accessible, rest assured that we’re actively working on improvements, and some of the missing features will be returning soon.  Stay tuned!

In the meantime, your Ratings Analysis is still available in the IMDb iOS and Android apps, accessible via your profile page.
To view your Ratings Distribution by Year and Genre, please visit our updated Help Guide: https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/track-movies-tv/using-ats-for-ratings-distribution-by-year-genre/GGZ43A3V5UM735J5#.

We understand these changes may affect how you use IMDb, and we’re here to help. If you have questions, feedback, or suggestions, feel free to share them in this thread.

Thanks for being part of the IMDb community.

Hi Michelle, I am still using the old version of the profile page and since IMDb have decided to remove the old version permanently, I would like to request you guys for the following to feature in the new version of the page: 1. The rating distribution is one of the most interesting feature on a profile page to identify how many title I rated what and how many title from a particular year I have seen. I will miss the feature. 2. I am a poll author at IMDb and like most of the other authors I like to mention my polls on my profile bio section but the recent character limitation prevent us to do so. 3. Which and how many polls I have taken is missing in the new version page. 4. The actual number of titles would be better instead of the approximate figure like 2K or 5K. An actual figure like 2,054 or 5,139 would be better. 5. The old bagde designs were a emotion to me. Do you guys remember when you first launched it? It was during IMDb's 25th anniversary celebration back in 2015. Regards DC

Hi Michelle, Thank you for your post. I would like to second @Dibyayan_Chakravorty's opinion on "Ratings Analysis". The Rating Distribution by year, as well as the Top-Rated Genres and Top-Rated Years are the most interesting features on IMdB and ones that got me to stick to using this platform rather than switching to LetterBoxd. It teaches me about me as a cinephile and my movie watching habits, my tastes. For this reason, I'd like to kindly request that you maintain these features on the new version of our profile. As of today, I always switch to the old version of my profile, which I find more complete and easier to navigate than the new one. I hope you can take this inquiry into consideration. Best, EJ

The Ratings Distribution graph is my favourite feature and if it were to be removed entirely it would pretty much remove my interest in having a profile and rating movies entirely. And from what I've read in these threads many others feel this way as well. I don't see how this streamlines anything. Its one of the most useful and interesting features you've provided and it be such a loss if it was permanently removed.

@joshuawarrenmedia It looks like you missed this in Michelle’s post above: “While the previous version of your profile is no longer accessible, rest assured that we’re actively working on improvements, and some of the missing features will be returning soon. Stay tuned!“

Fair enough, though I have to say that I found the first post a bit vague. Maybe I should have clarified that in my reply but when it says "some of the missing features will be returning soon" it is quite vague, especially when the same post also straight up says the ratings distributions won't be available after 14 July. With this I think its fair that some people will take it to mean that it will be removed entirely. So does all this then simply mean that it will be temporarily removed? Isn't that what its technically already been in the last months (not counting the old profile still being accessible)?

@joshuawarrenmedia It is deliberately vague, sorry. Ordinarily we do not make specific timing commitments, however, these are extraordinary circumstances. The old site software has to be completely retired by the end of this month — this is a hard deadline which cannot be moved due to certain components expiring (the software is already much too old). We were hoping to have the new ratings distribution ready in time, but it is not going to happen now, sorry. The relevant team will be working on completing the new ratings distribution ASAP after the old site software has been decommissioned. In the meantime, you can still access your overall 1-10 vote distribution graphs on both the IMDb iOS and Android apps. Although the popular years / genres distributions will be temporarily missing, you can at least access reports of your votes by year and genre via the links on https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/track-movies-tv/using-ats-for-ratings-distribution-by-year-genre/GGZ43A3V5UM735J5 Personally, I use the ratings distribution features just as much as everyone else (if not more so) and we simply had no choice here due to the hard deadline on retiring the old software. Hope this helps.

That makes sense. Apologies if my first reply came off as terse, I simply had a hard time figuring out what exactly was going to happen based on various threads I'd read. Thanks for the detailed explanation.

In the old version, without having to scroll or click, I could see all my 29 badges ánd the 5 titles I most recently voted on as well as the *exact* number of titles I've voted on and 9 links to, among others, lists, watchlists and the FAQ for Profiles. In the new version, I can only see 7 (!) badges and I have to click the arrow 4 (!) times to see all my badges. Instead of the 5 most recently voted titles, I see 0 (!) (I just see the top of the primary images of these titles, but not the names of the titles). Instead of the *exact* number of titles I've voted on, I see an approximate of the number of titles I've voted on. And instead of 9 quick links in the old version, I can now only click 3 (!) links, for lists, check-ins and watchlists. And the ratings distribution that will - hopefully - soon return as well as the By Year, is also listed on the first page of my old profile without having to scroll or click. The above has nothing to do with getting used to something, it's just a listing of facts. I simply fail to see why the user profile pages offer way less information without scrolling or clicking in the new format than they did in the old format.
