Why is IMDB such a mess?

Peter Falk and John Cassavetes are the stars of Mickey & Nicky. IMO they are inarguably two of the greatest actors in the industry. May their memories be a blessing. So why does it say

  • Stars

    I couldn't figure out why Falk and Cassavetes weren't listed as the stars. Turns out that the cast is listed in order of appearance and those three are listed first. There's nothing wrong with listing the cast in order of appearance, but Falk and Cassavetes should be listed there, not those three, and Falk and Cassavetes are listed as 7th and eighth in the "Top Cast" list. It's absurd. Looks like an AI gaffe. AI can and does make mistakes. FEH.

    I've been using IMDB for years and it's certainly gone downhill. We are told there are "editors", but in light of how many summaries (the ones that are above director, writer, etc.)  I've had to correct because the contributor was incapable of writing a cogent English sentence, I sincerely doubt it.

    It certainly doesn't surprise me that Amazon owns the site. They don't care. They don't have to.

The explanation is that the cast list follows the order from the end credits, so it has nothing to do with AI. But IMDb staff does have the ability to set the top stars differently, so perhaps they could do so here: Peter Falk, John Cassavetes and Ned Beatty are credited in the opening credits.

Your response does not explain why Falk and Cassavetes are not listed as the stars. I know that cast list follows the order from the end credits. Do you actually believe that the top three on an "order of appearance cast list" get moved to the STARS list on the movie's main page by human intervention? If not, explain how that happens without some sort of program telling it to "move the three top on the credit list to STARS". If IMDb staff does have the ability to set the top stars differently, why aren't they doing that? Isn't that their job? Do you even know who Peter Falk and John Cassavetes are? Apparently not.

Which brings me to another point. If IMDB has editors why do they expect free labor from their subscribers? I know I can go in there and change it, but why should I have to? Amazon has a market capitalization (net worth) of approximately $2.65 trillion. If Bezos can spend 50 million $%^! dollars for a wedding, he can afford to hire more and better "editors".

@Blanche52 - Hi,

Thank you for sharing your feedback.

We display the cast list as per the on-screen end credits. While some titles they might be credited in order of appearance, others will be listed in alphabetical order as per our guidelines

The credits should be ordered according to the most comprehensive cast list which in most cases, this will be the list appearing in the end credits.

If you spot incorrect order information, you are welcome to submit the respective corrections through the contribution form.
