Cheaper IMDb pro for schools?

I can no longer afford to my IMDb pro membership as a teacher and unfortunately schools here in the UK are being squeezed tighter and tighter - how about a cheaper membership scale for educational institutions?  I teach Film Studies at a girls' school and try encourage them to think of careers as technicians as well as actors.  Thoughts?

Pro is only required to add a resume and pictures. If you are not a working actor would you even need pro?

If you have film credits than your name page will remain on IMDB for free.

I suppose I'm just curious what purpose you have for even needing a pro membership. Any (non pro) account can do page edits for data entry and updating.

How do you access the detailed financial, technical and release data on normal IMDb?  In my classes we look at the technical specs and analyse the money side of film production.  I would be most grateful if you know how I can access this info via the normal site.

The box office data is expanded, as an advertised feature of Pro, but you can certainly view the normal display of pages via imdb.com, rather than Pro, to see the differences and if the normal display will be enough.

I am only aware of a SAG discount, so if you're a member in good standing of SAG, I believe you can use the discount code, "SAG discount," and get a discount.

I have never heard of an educator's discount, but it wouldn't hurt to ask staff (via the private form, since this is not an advertised offer) and see what they'll say, as I assume by using Pro, you're referring students to the site and Pro program, via this form

Non-Pro page views for titles offers a (look up a title, look to the right of the page for "quick links" section and choose Technical Specs) technical specs section, which I believe is the same on the Pro view of the site (http://pro.imdb.com/title/tt0066999/technical), if those are the technical details you're talking about.

If by, "release data," you mean release dates, I believe it's the same data, though Pro offers expanded view of information for titles in early stages of production. But I believe the actual release dates for various events, countries, etc., should be the same.

All that data is available on the basic IMDb, I believe.

As far as I know, the only information you can not see on the base system that is available on Pro  is :
1) Titles in Development
2) Company Details (e.g. Branch information and Staff)
3) Contact Information for People and Companies
4) Certain Message Boards and areas like Casting that are not part of the primary database.

In fact, in their last revision IMDb removed a significant amount of data from the Pro side that is still on the base side.

If you look at, for example, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)  and scroll down the page you will see the
Technical Specs section. Just under this section is the text link: See full technical specs »  Click on that and you are taken to the Technical Specifications page. The data is in a different sequence than the Pro Tech Specs page, but has all the same data -- and also includes Runtime  which is not on the Pro page.

The  Box office / business page appears to have most of the same data as the Pro page, but it is not in as readable a format. You (or your students) might want to copy the data and massage it so it can be loaded into a database or spreadsheet in order to study it. This is a case where the Pro version is better, but you can at least get access to the data using the base system. This page can be reached by clicking on See more » under the data in the Box Office section of the Main Title page

The Release Dates page is virtually the same as the Pro version. It can be reached by clicking on the Release data at the top of  the Main Title page, or by clicking on the See more » link beside the Release date in the Details section

All these links can be found in the Quick Links menu on the right side of the Main Title page, although you may need to click on Explore More to see the ones you want. The subsidiary pages will have a Quick Links menu at the right side (though it may not be titled) or an equivalent menu on the left.

From your post above, I believe the only down side of not using Pro will be the less readable format of the Box Office data, and as I mentioned you may be able to mitigate that.

P.S. One advantage of the basic account is that you can set it to show either UK or original titles, while Pro insists on only showing the US titles. For example the title I chose shows correctly on the base system but as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) in Pro.
