How long does it take for an alternate name to disappear

Hello,

I followed the exact instructions listed at this page:

yet even after unchecking the box, saving and confirming the change, after several days the alternate name on my page has remained. Did I misunderstand how this works? I was under the impression the name would not be visible on my claimed page and only on the title pages under my old credit (similar to Elliot Page). I reached out to support but they just kept referring me to the above webpage, which I have already followed exactly.
