Is "IMDbPro Basic Subscription" really free, wording on button makes me wonder?

Hello.

on

link

it says "  the Basic Subscription offers limited functionality at no cost. "

but the yellow button down to the right says "Try for free",

that "try" sounds to me like it's not permanently free?

Hello @kristin,

At IMDbPro, we offer two types of membership: a paid membership, IMDbPro Premium Subscription, which includes all the benefits of IMDbPro, and a free version with limited benefits, IMDbPro Basic Subscription.

The free version, IMDbPro Basic Subscription, remains free until you decide to upgrade to IMDbPro Premium Subscription. Otherwise, if you only want to keep your IMDbPro Basic Subscription membership, you can do so for as long as you wish.

For more information regarding Which IMDbPro Subscription is right for me? Please review our subscription comparison guide.

Ok, thank you. But why does the button in my mentioned link say "Try fri free" then? TRY doe's to me not give the impression that it is permanently free?

Hello @kristin,

I’m sorry for any misunderstanding. I assure you that if you click on the option that says “Try for free,” you will not be charged, as this is the free version of the IMDbPro membership.

On the other hand, if you select the option that says “Start Free Trial,” after 30 days you will be charged for the payment plan you previously selected.

@Jon  Yes I believe you, that is not my point for asking again, my point is that the wording on the button probably is confusing more people than me, so I am suggesting to change the wording on the button ;-)

And remove the TRY bit ;-)

Yes I agree with you it is a bit confusing the wording on the button. Maybe could be worded "free version" or similar.

Hello @kristin and @littleredspiders,

The button to start an IMDbPro Basic Subscription has been updated. It now says “Start free Basic membership.” You can check it on our help page.

Thank you very much for your comments and feedback on this matter.

@Jon   Yay! This looks great! And Zero possibility to misunderstand now :-)

May I also ask how the customer journey is when you stop/cancel a Premium subscription?

Because I talked to a director online that asked for help with adding a title to IMDb since he did not have IMDb Pro anymore, he was adviced he does not need that to add to IMDb, but I did inform him of the Pro Basic option, and he had never heard of it. He had cancelled his Premium one year ago.

But another user on the forum here wrote you automatically downgrade to Basic so I am a bit confused.

So this makes me wonder what happens when you cancel the Premium?

  1. Do you automatically downgrade to Basic?
  2. Do you get an option to chose Basic or terminate subscription on Pro altogether?
  3. Or are you automatically with no subscription if you cancel and not actively choose Basic instead?

Hello @kristin,

There are two ways to terminate your IMDbPro Premium membership:

  1. Canceling auto-renewal. If you want to use your membership only for the month or year you paid for but do not want to continue after that period ends, cancel the auto-renewal. On the next billing date, your membership will automatically be downgraded from IMDbPro Premium to IMDbPro Basic.
  2. Contact the customer service team. If you want to cancel your membership immediately and receive a refund, you need to contact our customer service team. They will verify your request and, based on our refund policy, proceed (if applicable) to cancel and refund your subscription. When a refund is processed, the membership becomes inactive and is not automatically downgraded to IMDbPro Basic.

When IMDbPro Premium is downgraded, it happens automatically. If, after your membership has been downgraded to IMDbPro Basic, you wish to cancel it, you can cancel the auto-renewal again and your membership will expire at the end of the period.
