UK box office errors -- August 14-16, 2026

I'm writing with regard to some apparent errors in Box Office Mojo's UK weekend box office report for August 14-16, 2026.

First of all, the evidence I'm using for the corrected box office totals for all of the films below is data from the British Film Institute's weekend box office figures at https://core-cms.bfi.org.uk/media/45210/download . This and past weekends' box office reports can be found at https://www.bfi.org.uk/industry-data-insights/weekend-box-office-figures .

Second, the BFI reports the films' grosses in UK pounds, whereas Box Office Mojo reports them in US dollars. According to https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/GBPUSD%3DX/history/ the GBP-USD exchange rate was 1.3491 at close of business on August 14, and 1.3548 at opening on August 17. I don't know the exact exchange rate that BOM used, so I am rounding off the exchange rate at £1 = US$1.35. I'm not going to be picayune about small percentage discrepancies; the discrepancies below are changes of 30% or more.

Here are the films I'm questioning:

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

IMDb link: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt22084616/

BOM link: https://www.boxofficemojo.com/release/rl541425921/weekend/

BOM lists the weekend box office at US$11,227,500. However, BFI lists it at £6,148,221. At the exchange rate of £1 = US$1.35, that should be approximately US$8.3 million.

PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie

IMDb link: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt29356163/

BOM link: https://www.boxofficemojo.com/release/rl760905729/weekend/

BOM does not list this film at all for the weekend of Aug. 14 to 16. However, BFI lists it at £695,004, which would put it in 5th place for the weekend. At the exchange rate of £1 = US$1.35, that should be approximately US$938,000.

Tony

IMDb link: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt33095251/

BOM link: https://www.boxofficemojo.com/release/rl2537980161/weekend/

BOM lists the weekend box office at US$397,120. However, BFI lists it at £402,472. At the exchange rate of £1 = US$1.35, that should be approximately US$543,000, which would put it one place ahead of Moana rather than one place behind.

Thanks for the problem report and sorry for the inconvenience.  It seems at least two countries are affected here (UK and Türkiye) and a ticket has been raised with the appropriate team (reference: D516696393).
