About me
European viewer and occasional reviewer: sharp, critical, lightly cynical, with a preference for stories that trust their audience. Much contemporary mainstream film and TV leans toward spectacle, exposition, and familiar heroic formulas, often at the expense of nuance, ambiguity, and reflection. Hollywood excels at scale and entertainment, but many British, European, and some Asian productions still stand out through atmosphere, restraint, character depth, and subtle storytelling. Cinema works best when it challenges, provokes, surprises, and leaves room for interpretation, not when everything is explained for the audience.
